Largo Hotbox Huge Disappointment

Well, my Largo 8-12 GPM hotbox arrived at the freight terminal in North Augusta today so I drive down after work to pick it up. The guys at the terminal helped me unbolt the hotbox from the pallet so they could put it on my trailer with their forklift. It was all wrapped up in cellophane but I was able to use tie down straps to secure the hotbox on the trailer. I drove about a block away and parked in an Advance Auto Store parking lot so I could bolt the hotbox onto the trailer floor. I have a stand-alone generator on my trailer so I hooked up my drill and drilled holes in the trailer floor and bolted the hotbox to the trailer.

Very excited about my new hotbox I head back down the highway to complete the 108 mile round trip. When I got home I unwrapped the cellophane from the hotbox so I could get a good look at it. It didn't hit me right away but I suddenly saw a 12 volt battery which confused me. I'm thinking.........what is a 115 volt hotbox doing with a 12 volt battery hooked up to it. Upon further inspection I notice there's no electrical cord and the burner says 12Volt on it.

At this moment I'm just totally dumbfounded that I waited over 3 weeks and three thousand dollars just to have 500 lbs of useless metal sitting on the back of my trailer rig. Just really disappointed that Largo sent me a 12 volt hotbox instead of the 115 volt hotbox I ordered.

I'll call the dealer tomorrow and see where we go from here. Was looking forward to shooting some hot water but I guess I'll have to wait another 3 or 4 weeks for that.

Sorry for the rant..........just had to vent a little. Thanks for listening.

Is there anyway of making the 12 volt burner work with your current system? If so, I just hook it up and ask the dealer to refund you the $$$ in price between the 2 units. I personally wouldn't wait another 3 or weeks for another unit if it was me though.

Think about how much $$$ you could be loosing while waiting for the right unit. Make this one work and start making $$$ with it.

My pressure washer is an 8 gpm Pressure Pro cold unit with 17 amps charging power. From what I understand the Pressure Pro cold unit charging system is not efficient enough to keep a constant charge on the 12 volt hotbox. That's why I ordered the 115 volt hotbox and had already bought a stand-alone generator that cost me about $450.00

For the time being I'm just screwed. There's no way I can just take the 12 volt hotbox off of my trailer because it weighs 500 lbs. I also don't have any spare time to drive another two (108 mile) trips to the freight terminal to deal with shipping this hotbox back and picking up the kind I ordered, much less waiting weeks for all of that to transpire.

If this 12 volt hotbox would work with my pressure washer I would reluctantly keep it but unfortunately my machine requires a 115 volt hotbox. I'm just hoping that Largo will somehow make this right. Still a huge disappointment as well as a major inconvenience.

No way to beef up the charging system?

If that's possible it would be more expense and hassle. And besides, I already spent $450.00 for a generator to run the 115 volt hotbox.

Have them send you a new burner assembly and swap it. Btw the 12v is more I believe

I've never even fired up a hotbox so doing mechanical work on one is not something I really want to do at this point. But if that's the route I have to go, how difficult would it be to change out the 12 volt burner for the 115 volt burner? Maybe the dealer can send me the 115 volt burner and pay a service center close by to do the switch for me. That would eliminate the need to ship the whole 500 lb. hotbox back to Largo.

I've been thinking that Largo Industries made the mistake of sending me the 12 volt hotbox instead of the 115 volt hotbox. This morning I have looked at the invoices from the dealer that I purchased the Largo hotbox from and the two invoices prove that the dealer made the mistake. I've contacted the dealer about this matter and waiting to hear back from them. We'll see how it goes. If the dealer will swap out the 12 volt burner for a 115 volt burner and pay a certified technician to do the work, plus pay for my driving expenses to the service center then maybe everything will be ok.

Tell the dealer that unless he plays ball you'll post his name on PWI.

The dealer is very reputable on these forums so I feel that he will make everything right. I've contacted him and waiting to hear back.

Wow............., just got a call from the dealer and he is on top of this matter in a good way. He's willing to send a whole new 115 volt hotbox if need be, or swap out the burner assembly and cover the cost for having a local qualified technician do the actual work.

Also the price of the Largo hotbox I bought 3 weeks ago has since dropped $750.00 in price so the dealer says he will refund me that amount in order to keep me from having a bad taste about doing business with them.

He (the dealer) is checking with Largo to see what all is involved with swapping out burner assemblies to see if that's the best route to take. Looks like everything is going to work out fine.

Good luck with that. You don't have any other trucking company close to you? Abf saia or someone? Have them send it back to one that's closer. Or if u had someone with a forklift locally and have the truck pick it up from there.

My local chemical supplier said I can use his facility as far as loading dock, forklift, and transfer truck access is concerned so that's a good thing in case I need to have the whole hotbox swapped out.

That's great news. If you get a new one, how long will it take?
