This was a bad problem and may have been one of the worst sistuation i have seen with this other than the girl that settled for 1.2 mil

That had to be some STRONG chemicals, to leave that much residue!

OK so what would you use next to asphalt or on asphalt for that matter? I know asphalt is fragile but there has to be something you can do.

By the way, did you pickup the account off the letter Ron? And would you mind if I borrow the idea?

I have found the best thing for asphalt is to rinse it or wash the trash off with water... heck even hot water will pull the petroleum out of the asphalt and make it get lighter... I say I will rinse it and if you want it to look like new I would suggest resurfacing it.. asphalt coating

Thanks for the replies. Hate to seem ignorant on the issue. However truth be told, I suppose am a bit under educated on some of this. My thing is, I'm looking at a few gas stations know and the best thing I can think of to set myself apart would be 1) clean the windows after, which no one does 2) get some of the oil drips off the asphalt 3) ???do full service and clean the inside too??. Not sure about that last one, but I need to add value to my service since I'm newer than the other guys. And I'd also like as much advice as possible so I don't turn into that guy in Ron's pictures.

The problem I see is that is a shopping center not a gas station or restaurant where oil and grease are most prevalent .Hot water should have cleaned that concrete with spot treatments of chems for any accumulated grease or oil in higher foot traffic areas.
You can tell there was no attempt to pre-wet the asphalt and definitely not enough effort out into rinsing the job properly.

Squirtgun - If it were a gas station would you not still just do spot treatment? Alot of the ones down here have concrete right at the pumps and the rest is asphalt. Which is the main reason I'm asking asphalt questions. And as far as pre-wetting, can I assume that is the same as pre-wet for fleet work? Kind of just to keep the chems from drying?

We would apply chems to the entire pump area.Pre wetting the asphalt gives you a buffer for the run off chem to dilute in to.We do commercial work daily that has asphalt butting up to concrete and have never left the kind of mess you see in the pics Ron posted.
Lazy contractors using a hotter than necessary a caustic mix and improper pre-wetting and rinsing techniques cause chem damage on asphalt.

I would agree with that Scott, there is always a way to be responsible about most things.
