Not sure if they are available iin your area or not, but try ServiceMagic.com
Lead referral service. they have done well by me.

Flyers are a better source of revenew. They show more professionalism. Newspapers supply folks looking for the cheapest businesses. Also Flyers show more credibility. Kind of like Magnetic signs vs. actual application of sinage on your vehicles. Everybody looking for a quick fix, goes to the cheapest form of advertising. Thank You.

cheap advertising

If any of you havn't used VistaPrint for postcards, business cards etc..., it's worth ck'ing out as they offer a lot of freebies.
Only problem I've had with their products are the auto magnet signs because they're not very heavy in magnet material and blow off easily ..Worth a peek!!!;)

The picture in my signature is an example of one of the ads I run in the contractor spotlight section of local papers. Cost is $350 per month on average and usually generates $6k-$7K per month by itself.

Thats a great ad, i dont think these guys would think thats cheap.

I respect the ad, I'm sure it works. Advertising thats cheap usally doesnt work.

Since you invented me Ken there will be alot of folks pissed off at you know.LOL

The best sales technique I have ever used was to wake up early print out a bunch of business cards that say I clean vent hoods , I clean concrete, I inspect fire equipment.. Then put a phone number and A website address.. Then just run in as many restaurants as humanily possible in one day , And Say these words to the manager " I pressure wash and clean and inspect kitchen exhaust systems" hand the a card and go to the next store.. Most of the time they will as right off the bat HOW MUCH?? If they do I give them a free estimate.. If not ( time is money) go to the next store...

LOL, I'll take some of the burden off ya' Ron.

The way I look at "cheap" advertising is in terms of return on investment. If I can get $15 to $20 back for every dollar I spend, its a cheap investment.

Did a hundred or so flyers in a neighborhood about 2 weeks ago.
Got 6 jobs at an avg. of $283.oo per job.
Time to hit them again with a note attached, here are six of neighbors
who are now satisfied clients of A-PLUS.

It has been mentioned in another thread but I consider networking groups advertising. Each week I present something about my company to the group that they can use to help refer my company to others. In dollars this costs me about $400 a year. In time it requires me to attend each week and prepare my presentations.

Last year referrals from that group brought me over five figures in business. As a small business owner who currently has no employees these people make a great peer group for me also. Even though we are not in related businesses I get a lot of great ideas from listening to how others run and market their companies.
