black Gutter Streaks???

What is the best way to get rid of Black Gutter Streaks? Find alot of homes have these and are hard to get off using pressure washer. No one wants to pay more to have them done but they want them spotless. Is there a safe way to get it off without damaging the Vinyl Sidings on the house? Anna:confused:

Believe him, it does work. It took a few tries for me to get the right dilution but it does a great job usine the jet x nozzle

Thanks for the replies. Can you get it in Home Depot or any other place? Seems reasonable enough. Cannot understand how a house seven months old has streaks that don't come off? Could be the company that made the gutters are not painted right? How does the black get on the gutters if there are no trees around? Anna

Anna, We too see houses that are less than a year old with black streaks. The streaks come from a chemical reaction between the alum. in the gutter and the asphalt in the shingles. There are different grades of gutters and they all react differently.

Simple question about gutters.

It seems all the problems develop by having alum. and the stucco, if that is true then why are the contractors not using plastic gutters?

I have painted alum. however they are not directly attached to my stucco home but are on 2 x 8 which is attached to the home, hench NO stains except in the corners where for some reason the water from the roof still finds a reach.

That leads me to believe it is more the dirt on the roof then some chemical reaction between the alum. and stucco.

What say you all, Mike Hughes I would like to hear your expect opinion also on this and perhaps even the Gutter Zap people.

There must be a simple answer.

Jon, if you read Steven"s previous post to Vrollingthunder you can see he has already anwsered your question as to what causes it as per Xterior's reason on website is the same it is a reaction between the aluminum and the asphalt shingles some kind of static bonding from what I understand. Has nothing to do with the stucco, or any other type of siding.

As to why they dont make the gutters out of plastic instead of aluminum...They do, it is quite a bit more expensive and probaly wont holdup in the sun as long therefore driving up the cost for both the professional's and the consumers so it's not real popular...The reason your gutters probably still do not have stains after painting is because you broke the bond by applying an exterior coating....The aluminum in it's original form is colored while still in a coil, and the color is baked onto it not painted so it somehow still allows the bond.

Vrollingthunder...No it is not availavble in any hardware/home improvement stores, as of right now I dont' believe Xterior is marketing it to the homeowner types, they are the manufacturer and therefore if you were to buy it elsewhere the cost would be retail and probably quite higher even with the shipping cost.

Jon,

They dont use plastic because the seamless gutter guys have rollforming machines that make gutters in any length they want......on site. If they were plastic, they would have to be pre-made and shipped, therefore raising the cost.

The streaks on the gutters have nothing to do with what type of siding. Like was said above, they come from a reaction with the shingles. It is perfectly normal to see this on a fairly new house.

I have the perfect picture for this occasion........but I cant find it at the moment. I posted it one other time somewhere, but I dont remember where............ it is a picture that shows.....no PROVES this theory. Basically, it is a picture of one of my customers gutters where the gutter extends under an overhang, which makes a section of gutter where no water is flowing off of the roof into it..........most of the gutter is gray and disgusting, all except for that two foot section that doesnt get rained on.......it is still as white as the day it was put in.........like I said, great picture.......I hope I find it.

Gutters are not a problem on all houses so I guess we will have to put up with it. Had all the answers when he called thanks to all your posts. He said he had a pressure washer himself and use to wash houses up North. Asked him how he got his gutters clean there and what did he use? He did not answer. He was a real wise guy wanted his money back after cleaning the whole house with a pressure and scrubbing the gutters with a brush. Deposited the check.

Will order a bottle of Gutter Zap. Anna:)

Anna

do yourself a favor and get the 5 gal. or 4 1 gal. saves shipping shipping is the big problem
i wish all CO. offered free shipping on bigger orders like readyseal i hope Gutter zap and readyseal are NEVER available at a place where just anyone[homeowner] could get it. Industrial strangth cleaners should stay where only professional contractors can buy them. Pressure only helps to clean its the chems that do the work. As soon as HOME DEPOT starts to sell a wash unit with hot water every tom ,dick, and harry will be a professional. Its bad now that the deck strippers that you can get at a paint store work as well as they do. Anyone can get started in deck refinnishing for less then $1000, a lot less.
