Scrounging around for Info... RE: Hazards of Power Washing

I'm in the process of building a website and I am wondering if anybody knows where I can find any links, articles, or general information, regarding the hazards of power washing. I want them for a “Consumer Info/Do It Yourself” page on my site.

Some time ago, I read an article on another site about a man who was killed, while washing a house, as the result of electrical shock. There was another article about a poor soul who perished due to chemical poisoning. I posted this question on the site where I read those posts but, nobody ever responded and nothing comes up when I do a search. In all fairness to that other site, I must admit that I clouded my question with a bunch of other mindless stuff.

Even if you only remember the newspaper where you read an article like that, and the approximate date, I’d really appreciate it if you would let me know. I’ll do the research.

How about Labor stats agencies. Does anybody know if that kind of information is keep by some bureaucrat somewhere?

Thanks :)

Why would you want to advertise the hazards of any business to the public?

In fact just waking up in the morning is a hazard, you could end up in the wrong bed with the wrong wife.

But really, if you had a web site of only negative stuff I would not want my customers to go there.

Now tell me one job or business that does not have hazards to it? Just one is all I want you to tell me, hmm, something tells me you have not found one yet.

Not picking on you but post positive things, we already know the negatives, or should know them.

Alright I will tell you one hazard, working nights ALONE, very dangerous and should never be done, so I am dumb as I do at times work alone late at night, only in areas I know have no gangs or problems.

Jon,

I don't want to put anything negative on my site, believe me.

My intent is to have a page on my site to educate the 'Do It Yourselfer'.

My heart goes out to those families that have lost a loved one over power washing, and if by educating people who are going to do it anyway, would help to save just one life, I think it's worth it.

I don't intend to actually post any articles that I find. My intent is to use 2 or 3 generic examples like: "On January 22, 2000, the it was reported that - While power washing his house, a man in Anytown USA, was killed as the result of electrical shock when he accidentally allowed the water stream from his spray gun to hit the power lines entering the house". I want hard (or soft) copy to backup what I say, in order to be able to prove whatever I say, if it ever became necessary.

Will stuff like that scare people into calling a professional? I hope so. If not, at least they'll be armed with more than a spray gun when they get started.

Sorry I was vague in my initial post.

Paul,

Go to Dans site and search Death, your right about two or three posts will come up.

the wiz is the guy who posted the mine operator who repaired his own machine and got killed. ask him, also i know it was listed in a wash online magazine.

try other death related words.

Paul,
E-mail Mike Hughes about the story of the guy who was killed powerwashing. If my memory serves me correctly I think he was the one who posted that story on Dans board a while back.

Also here on Long Island NY a corporate suit was at home cleaning his gutters when he fell off the ladder and died from his injuries a couple of days later. He left behind a wife and 2 young kids.

Another reason to hire the pro's. One more thing about that poor guy, his ladder supposedly broke when it was extended causing him to fall. I believed his wife witness the whole thing. Just a tragic story.

Ron,

Thanks for the kind words. I can use all the help I can get!

I've been searching Dan's site for about 2 hours. I only found one lead, but that might work out real well. I finally wound-up at carwash.com. I'm going to contact them to see if they might have any further leads or know where I can find some.

I have my PW quotes - 5 machines. I just need to talk to Landa tomorrow about some specs they didn't provide. I hope to post it by Friday night.

Thanks for changing my profile.
