Im going to start on my fence tomorrow, and was wondering the best way to apply oxalic and ready seal.

I understand I could also just brush the ready seal on, but im lazy, lol.

Could I just get a regular Pump-Up sprayer from lets say Home Depot, and use it? I'd like to spray the Oxalic on, then clean the thing really good, and 3-4 days later use it to apply the ready seal.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

I am not a wood guy and can't help you with the Stain, but Ox can be applied by Xjet, its quick as heck. I have done some wood and applied it that way. I figure airless for Ready Seal, but let one of the pro's show you the way. Good luck

I'm lazy too, thats why I don't do wood LOL

A pump up sprayer will work fine. Just make sure to backbrush any drips. As for the oxalic, you should try downstreaming it. That's what I do and can apply it to a 1000 sq. ft. deck in about 2 minutes. 8oz/gal in a 5'er then downstream. Mix it up as good as you can. So much faster and easier. Or as Jeff said, X-Jet it.

Oh heck yeah, yall just brought a smile to my face. I didn't know I could use the XJet to apply the oxalic, I didn't want to mess anything up .... but in this case, I might just use it :D

Any of you have a good mixture ratio (oxalic to water) (I believe my local store sells oxalic as powder) for the XJet with no proportioner?

Also, as far as shrubs etc. go, do I need to worry about that? Cause I do have quite some plants / bushes alongside the fence, or the usual wet em down before and after should be ok?

Im nervous, my wife would kill me if I mess up her plants :p

P.S.: Would this sprayer work? I just need something that works, lol. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100382513

We use Rady Seal all the time. Like they say it is goof proof. We use a Deckster to apply it but a pump up will work fine. We only have to use abrush for any runs that leave drips at the bottom. DO NOT use an airless.
If you ngo to lite on the coverage you can go back in a day or two and touch up. It will not leave any lapmarks. It is great to work with

PAT, here is that sprayer. two wheeler, 20.00, the sprayer I bought a 10 gallon atv spot sprayer from northern tool and equipment for 80.00 (join their e-mailing list and you get 10-20% off stuff all of the time and sometimes free shipping) plus it came with all of the plumbing. the pump is a spray on demand so no pressure build up, pull the trigger, it sprays, let go, pump stops. It also has an inline on/off toggle. I just got a 12v lawn and garden battery 21.00 at wally mart. battery box 5.00. I took some old 1/4 plywood and 1' of 2x4 to make the frame u-bolted it to the dolly and your good to go. I could not find it for these pics but i have a lid for the 5 gallon so it doesn't splash everywhere when you move it. works great I've sprayed ox-acid, stain, thompsons, bleach no probs so far. I comes with 12ft of hose, the pump is 2.2 gallon a minute with the nozzle wide open (i will empty a 5g fast like this) and will shoot about 15 feet straight up. If you tighten the nozzle and fan its more about 1gpm, great coverage. hope this helps. scott , (i couldn't find the lid for the 5g for the pic, very helpful for not making a mess)

That is friggin awesome. I got myself a project now :D Thanks! So basically you just took the pump off of that sprayer, and used it in the setup so it just draws from the big bucket, right?

pat,Your exactly right, try and keep the bucket platform as low as you can and still access the battery.
Mike, thanks for posting the link, I can never get that to work.scott

Ok, so I finally cleaned and brightened/neutralized my fence today (man it looks kinda pale now, lol).

Anyways, while doing so, I noticed the pump-up im using im sometimes missing the wood and it sprays beside it, basically being overspray. Now my question is, when I use the Ready Seal, what happens if I have some overspray go on lets say the grass ... bushes ... stuff like that. What should I be looking out for?

Thanks!

You know you use the ox after your wash, not before, right.

So can anybody give me tips about the overspray and what to do about it etc.

Thanks!

You can clean up with mineral spirits. (paint thinner) The best thing is NOT to get it somewhere, so the plasic is a good idea. If you get overspray on siding and windows and stuff, the paint thinner is the thing, but grass and plants will get toasted if the oil is left on any length of time. (sunlight gets intensified and the plant can't breath) Wash of with water as soon as possible. Doing a good pre-prep is the key here. Tarp out far enough to catch any overspray when spraying is the best advise I can give. Be careful on hot and sunny days when covering plants. Heat can build up under the tarp and be more of a problem to the plant than the sealer. Pre wet-prior to tarping, and rinse to revive as soon as you untarp. Call me if I can be of any assistance on this stuff Pat.
