High Rise Rinse pricing?

His crew may not be the brightest but I trust him to make sure that it is properly rigged. He has to get on it too and won't jump out there unless it is done right.
5 days is pleanty of time. It will be a pain to go onto every balcony but everytime they move the staging I will have 2-3 hours of downtime. To fill that time I will hit those balconies to knock it out. We can also go in the day before we get the staging and start on the baloconies so possibly have a good portion of it done before we ever go over the side. There are only 48 of them.
Safety is at the top of my list.

Good luck, get some good pictures of you on the rig

I just met with him on site today. The side of the building that faces the gulf is all balconies. We were talking about this and figured we can clean this side of the building while his crew moves the staging. Total job time will be approx 4-5 days max for us and around 11 for him. He says when he figures a bid he charges around $55/hr for him and $35 for skilled labor. $.05 puts us in the $50 an hr range for a 5 day job. We still need to add material costs on top of that.

The job in itself is fairly easy. Everything is flat. The patios are even easy to access. Maybe 7 drops on the entire job on the staging and the rest of the building can be done from balconies.

The thing is he has a pressure washer but doesn't trust his crew to get the job done right. In the past they have burnt up 2 pressure washers of his by just being dumb. If I bid to high then it is in his interest to do it him self and if I go to low I just screw myself. I honestly would be happy to make $2,000-$3500 on this job. It isn't bad cash for 5 days work. I will however leave it if I feel it is an unsafe enviornment, i.e. his crew cutting corners, trying to go in high winds, things like that.

$50/hr for pressure washing is way to low. You have to make more to stay in business.

I agree that $50.00 per hr is way low but welcome to the world of Florida. Not for nothing but I wouldn't do it for that price either. Catch 22--Bid too high they will do it themselves...Bid low and they suckered you into cheap labor...Also with them being on a time limit, having someone else pwing will free up his guys to get more done. Could be your being used.

True I could be getting the short end of the stick here. It's not that having someone else pwing will free up his guys it's that it will get done sooner. His guys would be running the staging for me while I just worry about washing. The early he finishes the job the more he made per day. Less he has to pay his guys and less he has to pay for the staging rental. He told me any days I save him on stage rental he will kick some of that back to me also... comes to $800 a day he saves. May not be the entire $800 but any is better than none.

As for the bid to high bid to low thing, he already said if it is to high he will just have his guys do it. The thing is he knows he can trust me to do the job and get it done right rather than his hired help.

Everytime I read a post here my bid goes up a little too. LOL

Cameron, Have you done work for this guy before? I do work for alot of painters. Sometimes I feel like Im taking it hard but to tell yu the truth I get alot of work from them as they do from me...It's a good relationship. Possibly this guy will have more work for you in the future. You know how it can be down here. The jobs come in real handy when you least expect it. :)

beware of the wind.I washed a 4 story condo 3 weeks ago and the painter told me there weren't going to ba any cars they would all be moved.Wrong I ended up having to cover a bunch in plastic and he told me the PM would probably pay us a little extra because of it.Wrong again.Make sure if there are any unseens like this he eats it not you.At the price your qouting it will put you working for nothing.

Every day there will be people in and out of the building so the PITA factor is going to be a ten,and everybody is looking for something to complain about so it might as well be you rinsing oxidized paint on to their BMW.

I work pretty cheap compared to some here but I couldn't do it for $3500.00.

Have a contract with terms & conditions Make yourself not responsible or liable for anything!!!! Anything you think can go wrong write it up in a way that you aren't liable

Cajun, we never cover cars, we prewet them as needed and rinse after washing, had maybe a few people complain and a couple over the years I paid to have their cars washed. Put notices up in areas that are to be cleaned that all vehicles MUST be moved and aren't responsible etc etc. Talk to the GM too

Now the thing with highrise overspray can fly hell a block away and you just have to deal with it. I have really never had much of a problem, but it could become one definitely

I didn't think of the overspray on cars. Thanks for that one. There is a 2 lvl parking garage at this place. I can talk with that gm today to post a flyer saying when we are going to rinse to park on the lower lvl. That will save us that headache. The next parking lot is pretty far away so depending on which way the wind is going I may have alot or a little to worry about.

As for the guy I am doing the work for I have known him for 3-4 years. It is the first time I have worked for him. I know some people that have worked for him though. They say as long as you do what he asks he takes care of you. He doesn't advertise at all but gets alot of work. During a lunch meeting yesterday he had gotten 2 calls for new jobs. Another high rise and a large house. He also mentioned he may have 5 more jobs like this one in Panama City. This job is popping up right when I need it too.

good luck with the job , maybe he will have you do the other place too.
