It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent

Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

It will never happen here? I bet the Aussies said that too!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

This story is mostly BS.
All of it is so inaccurate that my head spins right now.
All the data is over 10 years old , Australian citizens do not and never did have the constitutional right to own a firearms.
Basically ... They have huge decline in all armed incidents after buy back program in 1997 in most cases.
And remember that statistics are very easy to manipulate. This article was written by pro gun lobby and is full of BS. No one will go far with lies like that to the public.

Firearms are not safe and never will be.

Yea firearms are only SAFE for Criminals to use and when they have all of them and we don't, WE WILL BE SAFE.

Sorry this Country was build buy armed people, not unarmed people and our FREEDOMS were won by using ARMS, look at History not Lib Propaganda that tells us how Safe we will be without them and that we should TRUST THE GOVERMENT in taking care of us like they have all ready. I mean look at the GREAT JOB they are doing ON US right now.

Not only that, we have a Constitutional Right to bare arms and if people that don't like our Constitution, should move to where they dont have a Constitution and see how safe they are.

All I can say is I my family and myself will always be protected. By the way does anyone on here reload? I am thinking about getting into it since the price of ammo is about to go through the roof!!!

Though I disagree with gun control, here are the facts.

Personally, I think proper gun control is military two hand style not gangsta style. And anyone that thinks that murders will be reduced by gun control will be sadly disappointed if it happens.
 
Guns are very safe, I have never seen a gun do anything dangerous or stupid I have seen many stupid PEOPLE do stupid things with guns.

My point was about not real information's Rick provided and not about what will happen if most guns are off the streets - which is unreal.
There will be many opinions and different ones about same issue.
Personally I don't see the point of heaving gun if you are not a cop , hunter , security person or some kind of vip ...

I used to have gun long time ago for security reasons because I was driving with a lot of cash. When I changed my profession I also get rid of the gun.

I know many people who have guns just because they can and not because they need it .

It's waaaaay to easy to get gun permit in US and what Terry said "

BTW ... Monaco citizens are called subjects not citizens and they are very happy about it. They don't have guns , they don't have an army , they don't pay taxes , they have free cable from gov. ....who said guns build democracy , won freedom or making safe living ?

I don't quite see your logic here. So, as citizen, I shouldn't have the right to defend myself in a deadly situation? When someone breaks into my house at 3am, you're saying I should just pray and wait for the police who could be 10 minutes away? I must be missing something.
 
I respect your opinion, my thing is i have never kept a gun in my home around my family untill now, because we are in a time were we need them to protect our selfs and our familys. Just like the post says above ( true or not ) thats about what would happen if they took everybodys guns, the inocent will be unarmed while the criminals will run this place. We are not in the good ol days anymore.
 
My family are the most important Vip's I know, and yes they will be protected as much as is in my power, especially in our own home. Like Bunn said "look how well they're working in Chicago."

All because i have a gun it don't mean that i am going to go out and rob and kill someone :rolleyes: its there for the ones that try and rob me or harm my family :D .

So you are saying the minutemen, did not have anything to do with the revolutionary war, and if they did, they ran to the armory to get their assigned weapon? I think that you are sadly mistaken in your belief.
Also, if you look at history, the first thing that any good tyrant (Hitler, et. al.) does when they get in power is to confiscate guns. Why? because a disarmed society is less likely to rebel.

Your personal aversion to guns is not substantiation for your positions. The same as my personal preference for supporting teh 2nd amendment as it is written, is not a substantiation of mine. I just have a bit more weight behind my position.
 
Taking all the registered guns won't solve anything, I have 34 and only 2 are registered. There will still be ways to get guns on the street or in the country club. It will only give our government one more way to control us.

Sounds like many of you live in continuous fear. Do you live in really bad area ?
Have you ever heard about alarm systems , locking doors and windows or using baseball bat or hands to defend yourself ? How often someone breaks in to your house at 3 am. Is the gun the only way to defend yourself ?

We all should be more open minded. If someone breaks in to your house at 3 am and you are sleeping are you really sure you can defend yourself with the gun each and every time ??? I don't think so.

To be safe it's not all about heaving gun ... wake up !

I will stop now because I don't really see the end of this subject and I don't think I can change anything. It's your constitutional right to have a gun , there is also huge responsibility and for some sour life after something went wrong

I completely forgot that we all are using guns on daily basis :D and I used it few times to defend myself from wasps and bees ;)
