IF ANYBODY ATTEMPTS TO "PRESSURE WASH " YOUR HOME, THEY ARE NOT EDUCATED.

Just the sound of it should send you running. In today's world with all the recources for professional power cleaning companies out there, if someone even uses the term PRESSURE WASH for a house cleaning, they are NOT pros.

O.K.if you live in a brick house that's different, but honestly by the time someone fires up a truck, a 24 HP power washer, and a burner for hot water, provided the proper chemical for removing the source of your problem (not just pushing the mold to the ground)and have the proper attachments to SOFT WASH YOUR HOME, They have already spent $89.00

Do yourself a favor and hire an educated professional, (HINT)If the equipment being used can be physically picked up, You have hired yourself a handyman.

TO THE POSTER TO WHOM I'M REFERING, Nothing personal guy, But myself and many others have invested LOT'S of time and money to do this right, reply and I'll teach you how as well. but you cannot CLEAN a house for $89 <TABLE summary="craigslist hosted images"><TBODY><TR><TD align=middle></TD><TD align=middle></TD></TR><TR><TD align=middle></TD><TD align=middle></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

hmm ok so

basickly you get to the home and say oh btw i can clean up ypur driveway and guttterss for X amount while im here and a thAts a deal if some1 else was to come out they would have to charge setup fees and more???

Chris it is a gimmick, Ron did a 99.00 building wash last year and I did a FREE building wash and we both did well with them

My ads are not gimmicks Russ, we wash all the places fro the specials.

The difference between residential and commercial is you have to upsell for it to work. In commercial you dont, the customer has millions of dollars in pressure cleaning over the next 20 years. The residential does not.

For me a special is not a gimmick to upsell but and oppourtunity to form a realtionship.

Bait and switch maybe or just a beer money hack probably

My old neighborhood, there's a guy doing houses (1200-2300sq ft) for $50 and if you get a neighbor he will do them for $40 each OMG AND he's doing 2 car driveways for $10 each YUP TEN DOLLARS sad

Get caught by a news crew around here practicing that you will likly get arrested. especially if you are in a retirement community.

Its a fine line on this type of tactic.

Thats why I just use them to build relations, my payday will be having a long standing customer down the road the now knows that I can perform and they will call me for other regular projects.

I do $ 50 house washes. Obviously, I make no money on them, I do them as charitable giving. I currently extend this offer to my church as well as my son's school. They sell the house washes to whoever, for whatever amount (within certain area's and certain size homes) and we get $ 50.00 of it and they get the rest. It is one of the ways that we as a company give back. We get to write off the additional amount over the $ 50.00 as a charitable contribution and obviously, we get to write the rest off as a cost/loss.

We feel that it is our job to give back what God has blessed us with and this is one way we do it.

My bad Ron , bad choice of words, basically it is not a gimmick but a form of marketing. You have to get the call ! I did free building washes and only ended up washing one but I got contracts in 5 different states

I have done postcard marketing similar to what you guys are referring to. I have not washed one building, but I have done other work

You need to hire a good CPA because you cannot deduct your time or value of your services, only chems or products. You can donate all you want but when it comes to tax time and when you get audited, have some extra money in the bank for the penalties and interest on that added amount.

Some "tax season" people say that you can do that and they are wrong. You cannot do a house wash job and charge $200.00 and them only pay you for $50.00 and you claim $150.00 as a charitable contribution. That will get you in court when you are caught. You can donate the fuel, chems and whatever else you use to do the job but not your time or what the job is worth.

Not trying to be an ass here, just looking out for you.

I appreciate that. The purchasers pay the church / school directly and then the church / school pays us.

This is true. You can deduct the cost of your employees as well, but if you have employees your probably already doing that.

I may be wrong, but if this really upsets you, talk to the guy himself. It's not good business to publicly denounce him in front of the entire world on the internet. Just my opinion.

He might not know that he is grossly undercharging, he might not know there are better and more efficient ways to clean. He's probably just starting and doesn't have a lot of overhead. Put yourself in his posistion.

We need to help these people to understand how to do things correctly and charge correctly. I think most lowballers are not doing what they are doing on purpose or to screw us. They simply don't know. I'm really thankful that someone told me how important it was to keep prices up in the beginning. As my business grew, my prices were able to support the expanding business. If you explain it like that, you help them, yourself, your customers and the industry.

Oh Bother. My experience with Craigslist is that everyone that is selling a service is low priced, and any job being offered is underpaid. It is just part of the charm of free classifieds.

Exactly, I don't think quality customers are shopping on craigslist!

I have never posted pressure washing services on craigslist, as the customers I market to are not looking on craigslist for pressure washing services. I will probably use it during residential month asScott said, it is free. If I get 0 or 100 houses off of it (at full prices) then great. 2-3 minutes to type the ad and that's it.

That form of advertizing just does not excite me as I have paid for services found on craigslist, or I guess I sould say paid for their listing, as I never received what I paid for.

I understand his point, but I think the comments are a little to dogmatic. Heck, I have "pressure wash" in the name of my business. I use 8gpms at low psi, like most on here, but I still "Pressure Wash" houses. It is a common term. The comment about hot water almost makes it sound like you are using hot water on a house wash. I have washed a lot of $90 dollar homes. My guys did 17 1000sq patio homes for an HOA last Wednesday for $90 apiece. Started at 8 and everyone was heading for home/holidays by lunch time. Like I said, I understand the point, but kinda wild accusations.
