When Not to bid on a Parking Garage

I get emails from time to time asking for help in garage Cleaning. I am MORE than happy to direct an individual down the right road.

But folks, if you do not have the right equipment for cleaning a Parking structure, please reconsider what you are getting yourself into. Cleaning a parking structure is not a slam dunk. If you have been cleaning fences for the last two years and now decide that you are skipping a few chapters ahead to garage cleaning, you maybe bitting more than you can chew. There is a reason why in some states, a contractor gets paid in large amounts. You have to deal with the EPA and about 7 other Dept's of Gov.

IF YOU ACCIDENTAL DO IT WRONG, YOU WILL GET FINED and the fines are NOT cheap. $10,000 per day, per incident. $30,000+ in fines is not uncommon here in California.

May I suggest that you start by doing drive thru's of a Burger King or a Kentucky Fried chicken.

There is nothing wrong with reaching for your full potential, however one should walk first before they play football.

Thats my 2 cents !

Even without the agencies getting involved, there are tons of other things to think of when doing parking garages, like biohazards, like pee, poop and Condoms? , what do you do with drunks? How do you really get those stains up? Do you have the required equipment to get rid of Pigeon Poop? These tings all sound far more simple than they really can be. It is also really easy in parking garages for people to walk up on you because you get so involved in the monotony of the work, that you do not notice them.

Very Very Good Points Scott.

every specialized part of Pressure washing not only requires some special technique, knowledge, equipment, materials and expertise but also the ability to adapt to the situation as it arises.

Just talking about Pigeon droppings.... That is a whole 5 threads in it's self.

I only specialize in Garage Cleaning and some flat work. If I was to get a kitchen hood cleaning job, I would most likely screw it up. Though our equipment can be readjusted for hood cleaning, I would not know the first thing about it. I do not specialize in this field and knowledge of pressure washing.

I am concern that many of the newbies are considering all fields do to this economy, and thats fine! However..... take baby steps to achieve your goals. You will get there slower, but safer..... for your personal and business sake..... learn... walk.... master......learn.... climb...stumble.....learn.....master, then go onto running and repeat steps before you go onto playing professional football.

We got people here that go from driveway cleaning with an electric P/W, to biding on Cleaning the State Capitol bldg and winning the bid...

Oh yea and still use the electric P/W to do the job!!!

Out here in California, The local governments are starting to request higher BTU on Garage Cleaning. They are also asking for references and permits to be in place at the time of bidding.
