I use Picasa to manage all my pics. Super easy, plug in camera, name the album, click finish, then upload to web. The reason I upload them to web is I send a link to my clients after the job, I dont want to fill up their mailbox with a ton of pics. Picasa has free online storage,1 gig. Space is not a problem, my pics are small enough to where I can upload a lot of pics. Picasa has another limit, number of albums, 200. Ive maxed out 2 free accounts now. I could make yet another free account but the problem is I always have to log out of my "normal" gmail account and log into that particular picture account, pain in the ass. I could also upgrade the storage, 20 bucks a year for 10 gig, you also get a max of 1000 albums. I could do that but it wouldnt be long before I hit that limit.

So heres the question to any computer geeks out there. I have a 500 gig external hard drive. Is there a solution out there where I could give a link to the album on my hard drive? I know I would need some sort of server software and picture manager so their not just looking at file names. So, anyone know of any solutions?

check with godaddy they have stuff like that all built into a server for about $80-100 bucks a year

That is a great idea Roger, I hope there is a solution out there.

My web guys are re-doing my website so I can have unlimited storage for pictures and videos, they will be stored on a database and you just click on the thumbnail and it opens up from the server's hard drive.

I was hoping for something easier like what you are thinking about.

I was just about to go with go daddy, till I did a little more research on them. I can't afford to have my stuff held hostage. Do a search for godaddy problem or go daddy sucks or something like that and you will find some horror stories.

I'm like Roger, I need exactly what he's talking about.

Just got an idea on another BB. Just delete the older albums. I still have all the originals on my hard drive to cover my ass if need be. The only reason for the online copies is for the customer to see.

Sometimes the answer is so simple we just can't see it.
Nice answer!

Roger, what if you gave them a time limit like a month or two so then you can take down folders at the beginning of a new month and that way you would always have room? Keep the originals on hard drive.
