Duct Sensor

I serviced a new restaurant and set off an alarm from the sensor in the duct work. How do I avoid setting off these alarms in the future? I also was unable to turn it off because there was no reset button and had to tell the cust. to call an electrician. To get them through the nite I disconnected the bell wire and there was no downtime for the customer. Thanks for assistance.

Why would anyone put a bell sensor in a grease duct? The fire suppression systems have heat sensors that trip any number of fire retardant. Think about it, why put a bell alarm in a grease duct that is sealed and designed to be cleaned with water, as per NFPA 96?

Last month one of our crews set off a fire sensor in the attic that was placed under a class two system that leaked water onto the alarm. Everyone came and it cost me $250. The sensor was put in by the alarm company for added "protection". I took the blame because it was a good account and my manager should not have shot the class two system.

Hello Ron,

We have a couple of systems that have internal probes. The probe is water tight. The alarm is sent directly to the fire department as well as to the customers central control system.

Being that we and the customer are aware of these alarms, they disarm them before we clean the system.
