Starting a Forum

I want to start a forum, could someone that's done it tell me how the hosting and software works?

I've researched a little but if one of you guys would be willing to give me some quick advice it would be much faster.

Choose a hosting company like Startlogic.com (pretty cheap and I use them, great hosting)

Once you get that, also purchase a domain name (or get the domain first, whatever you want).

Then once you sign up for hosting, the company will give you 2 "nameservers". You will need to log into the domain (if you use godaddy for the domain name, you gotta sign in godaddy) and add te nameservers the hosting company gave you so your domain will be linked to the hosting.

Next you can log into the hosting control panel, and I know startlogic has something called an application center, where all you need to do is is click which forum you want (i think they give you 3 to choose from) and just click install ...

Let me know if you need help, I've been doing it for a while.

vBulletin def. is a great forum. However, it's not free and doesn't come free with any hosting company that I am aware off. I know one of the forums Startlogic comes with is "phpBB" which in my opinion is a very nice forum and it's free. Of course, if you want the "high end" of forums, use vBulletin. I've been an Admin plenty of times on vBulletin boards and it really is the best, but phpBB comes in second I would have to say.
 
I can set you up an account on our server. I will give you your own cpanel and do the setup for the forum for $5.95/month.

You can also host whatever else you want off the site. It's your own hosting account including cpanel. Here is a demo link http://cpanel.siteground-demo.com/

I've been trying to get our company site going http://www.enhancedcreations.com but haven't had the time and my plans are to big to do something simple.

Just 2 real BS jobs...One of those days...Both should have been very easy in and outs and neither one was. I hate when customers lie to me... I should have been home by 3:00 and didn't get back to the shop until 6:30pm...I'm just whinning!! :eek:

Been there, done that, and know the feeling. And my first post on this board is about whining, sheesh. go figure.
