portable ro system

I am going to set up one of my trucks with a portable ro system. Have any of you tried this before? I currently use di tanks but am wanting to switch over to ro for cost reasons and I won't have to hassle with swapping out the di tanks all the time.

I have an RO however its in no way portable. The ones I have seen could not keep up with the amount of water you would need however that does not mean they are non-existant

Maybe something like I am thinking about for the "Special Project" that I am not talking about that needs DI water. With 2 of the dual process systems coupled together it might make 5gpm max and you will need to slow down on occasion for it to catch up.

There are larger DI systems out there for Industrial use but then you are talking in the $10K range to start out.

There might be larger RO systems out there, probably need to search the Industrial sites for something.

Carey, most of the guys that I know of that do fleets and want the spot free rinse use the DI systems. Chris T. is the first one that I heard of that uses RO for the spot free wash.

I see what you mean about the cost, I was looking and it seems to be between $0.20 and $0.25 per gallon to make the DI water with the system. RO would be a lot less expensive but I do not know that much about it and how much water it can make (gpm's) or how long the filters or anything else that you change out would last.

My best advice is to keep searching out there and maybe on the Window cleaner's bbs, they have some good systems for DI, maybe they have something for RO also?

Let us know what you find out.

I am meeting with a guy Monday that says he can set up a ro system that will do 5gpm and if needed can add another membrain for more gpm. And all this will fit easy on my truck. In the summer I spend $1,000 a month on di. This ro setup will run me $350 a month. Membains should last about a year. I hope his claims turn out to be true. I will keep everybudy posted

Find out the cost for the setup before you purchase it, I have a good friend that has a window cleaning business and has a special cart that has both DI and RO on it so it makes the DI for less money, he would be a good person to talk to after you get your prices from your friend.

Let me know and I will give you his number and talk to him before any money changes hands.

How many gallons of RO can you make for that $350.00, did he tell you?

There is a guy in the atlanta area named Bob that has one in his van, built it himself...online he's aquabob.

I have 2 rainsoft tanks on my fleet washing trailer. they a re all rigged by a buddy of mine from FL. he was in the water filtration bizz. for a good while in FL.they are set up on a "Y" so I can by pass the ro system if needed. He changed out the stuff inside one of the cylinders and put carbon powder inside, the bag of carbon costs me about 20-40 bucks and lasts a long time. but i do have to let the 325 tank fill up about half way before i start. just to be on the safe side. the RO systems are like the ones from home depot but by rainsoft i paid about 75 bucks for both of them at a garage sale and my buddy just recharged them for about $30 or so.

The last set of membranes i had lasted me about 4 months but were running around the clock to keep the supply tank at the house full when we were doing car lots. I thought about adding another membrane and housing to the mix but never really needed it . I attached a link to a membrane that puts out 2600 per day if there is addequate water supply. I would think you will need a booster pump to run 3 or 4 of these that would enable you to run at 60psi throughout the system. http://www.wateranywhere.com/Water_Filtration_Products/product_info.php?cPath=22_41_62&products_id=170&osCsid=587c6c13f91ed946cf6acf23ecc293bf

you will need at least 8500gpm per day to achieve 5gpm if my numbers are correct. the supplier in the link has very good prices on units as well as membranes when you go to replacing them

I am trying to find or see how much it would be to build a system that will do at least 5gpm for 10-14 hours per day for about 4-6 days but only 2 times per year.

Trying to see if there is something out there already made that will do the job or if I would have to build it and the cost on either. I am still looking out there.

finaly got my r/o system together. I was able to buy instead of rent. 5gpm and it's the size of a di tank. It's custom but simple.

What was the cost?

Got any pictures?

. I will try and email you some pics tomorrow. If you are intersted I could build you one for $2,000. If you want to build it yourself and save some money I can get you a parts list.

Thanks, info and a parts list would be great. Still thinking about this special project that will need D.I. Water but I am thinking that maybe do the R.O. first then the D.I. to cut back on the charging of the system trying to do 5.5gpm for 8-12 hours a day for a solid week.
