who has used wolman extreme? have you had any problems? Most of the problems seem to happen in about five to six months after the first application. The peeling is a huge problem, and their is no way to properly recoat unless using a solid stain. Right????????

who has had problems with extreme? or is it just me?

Lots of people have had problems, and the product was pulled from the shelves here in the Northeast.

I successfully stripped Wolman Extreme from a deck last summer............but never again! What a pain.

Extreme was pulled here also. Wolman put out a notice a while back to this effect. The main reason for Extreme failing was, get this, deck preparation....... so they say. But it is no longer available here, just left over inventory.

Apparently Wolman is getting sued in a big way over this, which is why it's not on the shelves anymore. We only did a few decks with it last year, I'm hoping we don't have any fallout over those. From what I've been told "Extreme" was designed and tested in Florida before it was brought up North, but it doesn't seem to be able to handle the freeze thaw cycles we've got up here. Either way we're not touching that crap again. We actually had a few problems with other Wolman products we used last year also. Must have been a bad year for them. We've dropped all Wolman products this year and won't be using them again.

Do you remember this POST TONY?

yes I do,
We sued Zinnser (sp?) over this a few years back. I hired a high price lawyer from Chicago. In matter of fact he was the same Lawyer that sued over the Pet Food Contamination thing a year ago or so. He also had a class action against Colman compressors too. This lawyer wins his cases!

It took two years to battle Zinnser and at the end I was advised to settle out of court. Zinnser made a reasonable offer, but I had to take the funds and invest into marketing and advertising to get back the customer base the product Wolman Extreme had distroyed my customer relationships.

No I did not go buy a fancy ATV, I did the most wise thing and spent almost all of the funds back into the business. Maybe besides a nice new caddy (no just kidding).

I did make huge waves in the Zinnser Company and a few upper management key personnel got fired including a few chemist that was envolved with the Wolman Extreme Product. So I can not say I lost because I did make them accountable and I did settle for some cash.

My objective back then was to get other contractors that used the product to jump on board with me and no one would do so. We all would have stood a firm ground if we would have made this Stain Company be accountable for their bad product. Strength in numbers my friends!
But, I did ok for a lone rider!

I beleive Wollman Extreme is very similar to Flood Spa N Deck. Its an acrylic right?

Flood SpaNDeck is very popular here. I see it all the time and have used it to my detriment.
It peels something terrible and then it traps moisture and you see worse problems than if it was never finished at all. It is extremely hard to strip also.
Flood also blames contractor prep and application for problems. Instructions were to apply first coat on damp wood. They recently changed the can to read "apply when moisture content is below 15%"
Needless to say I wish they would discontinue it all together

I recently had a condo complex ask for Extreme. They gave the job to someone before I could get to the estimate. The dock looks great now, but I am going to check on it at about the 6month mark.

jon,
Well here is some information that may explain some things about Floods spa n deck product.
Fran Corbert was the inventor of tropi-deck and its the same as spa-n deck product. The Flood company bought out the formula from Mr. Corbert and Flood ran with it. In the Wolman Extreme law suit, the chemist claim that the wolman extreme product was to work just like tropi-deck (aka-flood spa-n-deck) but zinnser/wolman rushed the product to market to be the first ever water based acrylic transperent stain? or something like that.

But either one of the product work. Jon, they to zinsser also tried to blame the applicator of the product. Kinda funny that all applicator's across the USA had the same issues.
Acrylic stains do not use, they will fail and are hard to remove!
