I havent heard of anyone using penofin? Do you guys know what that product is? I have had really good results with it. It comes from Home depot. And is about 26 dollars a gallon.

Here is a deck that was BLACK i had to strip it, put a cleaner and brightner on it, Sand it then stain it.

Mark,

I don't know how long you've been in business or how many decks you've done but I wish you the best of luck with Penefin. We have used it in the past in your area and other areas on the west side (at owners request) and had nothing but problems with it. We have had decks turn black within weeks of applying this product.

I am assuming that you are a req. contractor as the state requires. This product will give you a lot of problems with the contractors board and will cost you a lot of money down the road. Don't expect any back up or help from the manufacture, been there, done that. They really like you when you are using their product but when you have a problem, you didn't apply it right. They will tell you that you have a mildew problem but their product doesn't mildew. Still trying to figure that one out.

Our climate, along with Western Washington is about the worst there is for finishes. We have tested many, many finishes and found that they can't hold up under our climatic contitions. Yes, we even tested Ready Seal, lasted for about 3 months before turning black.

In choosing a finish for your area (Oregon), keep in mind that it has to last at least a year (soon to be two years) or you may be redoing them at your own expense. The contractors board shows no pitty to the contractors.

If your interested in a good finish for your area, let me know.

Jim, i have been using penofin for 3 years now, I wasnt aware that i needed a contractor license for that. I mainly do windows, and restore decks if they have them. I contacted the ccb 3 times and they said if i wasnt doing repair i didnt need the ccb lic. I couldnt understand why not. So each year i called and asked them again and they gave me the same answer. Finally a few months ago i decided to take the ccb classes just so i could get the all in one business lic. instead of buying one for each area. there is where i found out i should have a lic. so this week is my final state exam. As for the staining, what stain do you use for your decks? and your process? I have used it for 3 years and have never had a problem. but i would like to know what you use and your process please.

Thanks

Hi, I'm confused, I own a small window cleaning company in Tx, I'm fixing to expand my business to include pressure washing and deck restoration, as far as I knew all I needed was a DBA and insurance at least thats all I needed for window cleaning, whats with all the talk about business licsence, is this just a west coast thing or is it nation wide.
thanks

Seems to be a west coast thing. Check with your state just to be sure. Ask the local Chamber of Commerce, they might know.

Thanks Mike,
I was thinking of checking on the other forum, as I have noticed a couple of contractors from Tx on there, hopefully it will be quicker and easier than my local chamer of commerce( I dont feel like getting put on hold for an hour and a half). anyway thanks again.
