Looking for Sodium Hypochlorite in Charleston, SC

I am looking for a supplier of 12% Sodium Hypochlorite near Charleston, SC. Pool supply companies only sell it in the gallon jugs. Brenntag will only sell it 1000 gallons at a time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Richard

I am sure that someone from your area will post some info on where to get it. 1000 gallons is a lot, maybe they were not taking you serious?

Did you tell them you had a business?

Give them a card?

Let them know how much you plan on buying?

Show them your business registration and/or license?

Show them your business insurance?

This stuff is becoming more and more common before suppliers will sell you chemicals because of Homeland Security. They are just protecting themselves, you can't blame them for that with all the weirdo's out there.

Thanks for the info. I am awaiting a call from Brenntag's sales rep.

I filled in my signature.

Make sure that you request the MSDS sheet and carry it with you and the sodium hypochlorite at all times. You never know where DOT may be lurking!

That is a good point Lori.

When you have chemicals with you in the truck/van/trailer you have to have the MSDS with you within arm's reach in a folder/spiral/notebook, whatever you want but needs to have every chemical that you have in/on that vehicle and/or trailer.

If you do not have them and D.O.T. pulls you over, you are looking at fines and that will cause more inspection and possibly more fines of things that you are not aware of but are Federal D.O.T. Regulations for the Roads and Highways, nobody is exempt.

There are a lot of places that seem to not be enforcing the D.O.T. regulations but they are being enforced, you just do not see it too much but they are cracking down more and more.

The State Troopers usually do not write many tickets in the city because it is the city police that usually do that but now with more cooperation between city/state/government that is starting to change.

I have never seen a State Trooper give a ticket inside the city before but I have seen 5 in the last month so maybe they are expanding their coverage. Typically they stay on the highways but since they also cover roads, they can give tickets inside the city also if they want.

I would not want to be caught with over 90 gallons of bleach on my truck or trailer without having the proper placards, D.O.T. registered vehicle, CDL with Hazmat endorsement, D.O.T. approved Container, etc..............................., that fine would suck!

There are a lot of other things that you have to know about but that has been talked about a lot in other threads, search for DOT, regulations, hauling chemicals, etc.... here in the bbs and you will find a lot of great threads.

I cannot remember the names any longer but there is a place of Sam Ritten Blvd that does 55 gal drums for a reasonable price. Begins with an "E" I believe...Energen??? Also, there was one off Atlanta Rd near Montague that was able to do it by the 5 gallon drum. Not sure if either do it any longer.

Colonial Chemical Solutions

These guys do a great job for me. Call Stan first, 706.564.1000, tell him Aaron from Hilton Head gave you the #. He started the company, sold it, but now is VP/Sales. He will get some company info from you and make it easier for you, rather than just showing up the first time. The company typically sells in high-volume, but Stan got me set up in their system where I will call what I need -- I rarely buy more than 55 at a time. I get mostly 12.5 there, at a great price.

None of you have heard of going green???
Stop using the easy way out.
Sodium hypochloride what is that?
Have not used it for over three years,i know change is hard but green is here to stay!
Try using oxione it does the same job if not better,no toxins here.
You can buy it at 65cts a gall in dry powder,no hazards here!
Thank you,

Energen wants $144 for 55 gal. Is this a good price? The pools stores around Charleston do not even carry the gallon size, some DHEC thing...

Thanks.

That's not too bad. Some guys pay less than that, but in my neck of the woods it's about the same. When you get enough business you'll get a price break for ordering more material. I get a break when I order 2-4 barrels and then another from 5 up.
