Funeral Home

Here is a funeral home I have to do this week. The surface is like plaster with pea gravel shoved into it. The brown color is just dirt it came off easy but the upper black color i'm guessing is algea or mold, it didn't come off as easy. I had to get pretty close with my wand to get it off then the gravel started coming out. Will a good strong house wash mix take it off at low pressure. I have 12% and simple cherry for the mix.

I would bet that most of the black stuff right below the roof flashing is probably gonna be stains and runoff residue from the roofing material. Is the roof material hot tar and pea gravel? You are probably gonna have to use a strong mix of gutter cleaner/ caustic to put a dent in removong that crap. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck.

give it a good DS'ing with lots of soap. It will melt away. Just be careful not to hit the underside (ceiling) too hard with any pressure. It looks like Green Board to me. A lite coat and a lite rinse will get rid of all that.

I would try extra strength "ripper" from envirospec, if that does not work 12% with caustic mix.

The reason I suggested "ripper", yesterday I only mixed 5 gallons so I had to calculate how much of the 2 different liquids was necessary for 5 gallons of solution, I grabbed a red dixie cups to pour the liquids into, after 3 mins the cup melted with one of the liquids, it spilled into the asphalt driveway and softened a big area that I could leave my finger impression in, and a big oil sheen, not the brown coffee stains that degreasers/butyl leaves, it just cut straight through the seal coat and softened the asphalt.

Maybe Paul or Homer could chime in here. What is that stuff?

So now we know who is weakening all the asphalt up in that area, I heard on the news that there was an outbreak of little finger marks in asphalt all over Maryland but nobody could figure it out. hahahahahahaha

Sometimes that stuff on the wall needs a stronger mix, not all the time but sometimes so if the downstreaming does not do it, either X-Jet some or use your bucket for downstreaming and get a brush and apply some by brush on the bad spots and that should take care of it.

If it is runoff from the roof then some F-13 or SM or Butyl or Sodium Hydroxide added should work.

Ok I did this job yestarday evening. I used 10%(all i could here) and simple cherry mixed pretty strong. I downstreamed it on, twice. Let it sit a few minutes and washed it off with hot water. Barely any change. Any suggestions of something else to try? I really want this to come clean, this could lead to a huge job.

I think what Chris said will prob get it done....

Danny, If you don't have an X-Jet then get a pump up sprayer that will handle bleach (viton seals or sometimes the "acid sprayer" will work) and make up a small amount of 1/3 bleach and 2/3 water and give it a try, if it does nothing then 50/50 and if that does not do it then you have to go with opposite ends of the spectrum.

Is there aluminum flashing where the black stuff is coming down?

What is the roof composition?

I was already stronger than 50/50 and it did nothing to it. I think it's from years of neglect. Trees all around probably mold stained the plaster. Where there are no trees it's not black. I have already called and told the manager it may not come clean but I was gonna try it a couple more times before i throw in the towel.

If it is from the aluminum flashing, sometimes you need a buffered acid like SafeRestore. It could be the Aluminum Oxide Bleed.

Danny fill us in on this one!!

Wow ran across this old thread and see I never followed up. I used my sureflow pump and applied a mix of 10%sh, Water and Dawn. I left it on, did not rinse it off. Went back by a few days later and it was stark white. Looked perfect. I was at about 60% on the SH so it was strong, but when it rained it rinsed it off and it looked perfect. I got a quarterly gig out of it to do their big huge Memorial Gardens cemetary. Dime Bag is buried there. HA HA

There is a dime Bag buried there??? :yikes:

Not worth the drive to go find it...lol

Just a comment/question on this job. Did you ever try a butyl cleaner during the job? I ask cause those black streaks could be something similar to the streaks on gutters. A few stucco houses around here get those streak around the windows and the butyl seems to do a nice job taking it off.
