Mike Hinderliter

You might say power washing is in his blood. Michael Hinderliter held his first pressure washing wand at the tender age of 12. That’s when he began working summers and weekends for his father, Robert Hinderliter, president of Delco Cleaning Systems of Forth Worth. Michael started off repairing and building pressure washers. By the time he was a senior in high school Michael had started his own power washing business, Steamaway Mobile Power Wash, and was putting away money toward college.
Pressure washing has been good to Michael thus far. Steamaway’s revenues paid his school tuition and living expenses, his first home and vehicles. A recognized leader in the industry, Michael is a well-respected power wash instructor and has served as the President for a non-profit trade association, Power Washers of North America (PWNA).Continued

Daryl Mirza

The popular children’s fable of Rumpelstiltskin gifts a miller’s daughter with the talent to spin straw into gold. Well, the success story of Daryl Mirza and Christie Kaye-Mirza is no fable. Together they turned kitchen grease into gold, spinning a side gig into a corporate giant with $36 million in annual sales. What’s the story behind their success and what can you learn from their fable come-true?

Partners in Business & Life
Daryl was a computer techie and a people person. Not long after college graduation, he went into managing restaurants for Burger King, setting up new stores and establishing services for maintenance of the facilities. Christie, not long after graduation with a BS in Pharmacy from Drake University, was working three jobs with a dream of owning her own business. She often ran to the local Burger King for lunch between jobs. She recalls laughingly how Daryl would fight to serve her whenever she came in.

The Beginning “A Juggling Act”
“Daryl couldn’t find anybody steady to clean the kitchen exhausts,” Christie recalls. That’s when they noticed an article in Entrepreneur Magazine advertising a school called Black Magic. “Christie and I attended their school then came back and started on our own [business].” It was the mid-1980s. “Christie worked full time as a pharmacist and I worked full time at Burger King, then we’d come home and go back to bed for a few hours, wake up in the middle of the night, go out and clean a hood [or two], and go back to bed for a few hours, then the next morning we’d wake up and go to work again.” They started their first company under the name of “Ducts, Unlimited,” out of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Somehow they kept up their juggling act for the next five years.

Russ Spence

When we formed our company in 1996, I wanted it to be the best power washing company in the Southeastern United States. By that I mean I wanted everyone we work with, the clients to whom we provide services, our technicians and all of our vendors to be so satisfied with our company that they would recommend us to their friends and family and want to continue to work with us over the years. We have also been published in National Magazines 4 times this year as well.

I can honestly say that every day I get up in the morning and look forward to going to work. I think of all the great new customers I will meet each day and how fortunate I am to have employees who care about my business as much as I do. I'm in this business for the long haul and really enjoy it!

The satisfaction I get from knowing that each client we will service today will become another happy customer can't be quantified. It's a wonderful feeling to know that the work we do is appreciated by our patrons and that they will keep coming back

Tony Shelton

Tony Shelton’s Summary

My goal for over ten years has been to identify tasks that are considered difficult or a nuisance and streamline them in a way that allows us to do them faster and more effectively than anyone else.

We did that with the DMV Service business where, starting in 1999, we had only 3 competitors. This swelled to over 300 in 2004 and has now dwindled to two dozen or less. Our services are streamlined and efficient giving us the power to weather the storms of change that come with dealing with the state government.

We did that with the Dry Clean Delivery industry when we started Vegas Valley Valet Cleaners in 1998 with only two direct competitors. By 2006 there were twenty-three dry clean delivery services operating in Las Vegas, none of which were as streamlined or a profitable as ours. By 2004 we expected a future downturn in the economy based on the extensive borrowing and inflation of the housing market. Assuming that luxuries like dry clean delivery would suffer in those times we started Sonitx, Inc as a backup and eventually sold VVVC in 2006.

Sonitx, Inc began in 2004 as a residential air filter service. Quickly we realized our growth would be limited in this market and we branched out into the commercial market. Our goal was to provide superior filtration while using environmentally friendly practices and products. We have evolved into a full service business supplementing that HVACR industry professionals by providing air filtration and coil cleaning services freeing up the HVACR technicians to provide skilled maintenance and repair services instead of spending their time on menial cleaning tasks.
Tony Shelton’s Specialties:

I teach coil cleaning classes, air filter services and am a moderator on the Pressure Washing Institute Forum.
