Here's one for ya.

30 sections of 6Hx8W privacy fence, cedar
totally neglected, black and green from mildew and mold.
needs strip, clean and seal. 2880 approx sf.
3 panels blown down from windstorm. 50.00 a panel. need to
reset posts and put up new panels.
10 fence board to replace at 2.50 ea.

Using only the above info and what "you" charge in labor. What would be an approximate quote.

I will tell you what I quoted after seeing some others, I promise.

My bid was 2288.70. The customer called me when he received his bid and stated "are you serious?". Just another example of how our customers don't understand what things cost. Even after explaining to him that he is getting the rate reduced because of total sf and that my materials for replacing his panels are at my cost, he couldn't understand. Sealer alone would have been in the neighborhood of 650. It was really old nasty wood and would have soaked up alot. Hopefully, he will go out and get other bids and compare, if he's a smart shopper. I'm sure he'll find someone who will underbid me so we'll see.

Take care all, the season is upon us finally. NO more ice storms would be nice..

Reedster,

Don't sweat it......and don't write the customer off yet.

I gave a bid a month ago on a fence and deck, a little over 2K, and when i took it to the customer they said it was over twice what they expected. He would not even listen to my sales pitch, he was pretty much cutting me off saying that he'd let me know his decision in a week. He said he was 'bowled over' by my bid. Well, a week goes by and guess who he calls?? We are working on the job right now and he is a pretty good guy. Some people just want to see if you will play hardball or not.

Jon,

Where you been dude? You are absolutely right. I high balled a bid last year, deck/fence (shadow box) combo, really high balled. Ended up getting it and he is my best customer, always wants bus cards! Wife made me lunch too!

Hey need a favor, Better half and I are going to meet kids and new grandson half way between here in st louis and gainesville FL. Do you know of any bread and breakfast or other places like this around Chattanooga or there abouts I can look into? Would appreciate the info.
