Have any of you seen the movie, Pay It Forward?

If you haven't YOU NEED to!

Its one of the best movies about giving back.

To BOTH the world and the people that live in it.

Roof Cleaning is a great way to earn a living but its not EVERYTHING.

I was very sick a while back and it made me review my entire life.

I decided to make some changes about 7 years ago, for the better.

Life is TOO Short...I don't know about you but I have found that it can all be over in an instant?

Why not make the most of your time and do stuff that helps others to while we are on the planet and make a difference while your here?

I try to do this, each and every day?

What about YOU?

Anyone, CHIME in?

Have you seen it (the movie)?

What did you think, what did it prompt you to do?

Did YOU start to make a difference?

Lets talk about this? Just for grins and .....?

Its the Holiday season and work is slow, so, why not think about and discuss inspirational subjects and help each other LIFT our collective roof cleaning spirits?

Waiting to hear from you?

I have helped people out in the past, but what I got back was more like the movie Broke Back Mountain.

That explains some of the anger in your posts:shocked2:

That is a great movie!

I agree about helping others.

It is kind of like a friend of yours has a company and someone feels like not paying their bill so you offer to help them with the problem if the person does not pay but that company wants to handle it themselves.

What do you do? You want to help them but at the same time respect them for dealing with it their own way. Sometimes you just want to go over to that person's house and "deal" with it your way and then they will pay on time next time, if the company will do business with them after that.

What kind of loser would do something like that?

What kind of A**hole would try to rip off a small business that really goes out of their way to help others to build their businesses while trying to say above water in this economy?

What would you do?

I try to help others as much as I can either with physically helping them, knowledge if I know, money if I have it, etc..... I try to do what I can.

I really wanted to help this company a lot, the employees are great people and really nice to do business with but I decided to let them handle it their own way and I don't know if they ever got the last bit of money from that Loser, Scumbag, Thief, and waste of human existence.

Things have a way of working themselves out most of the time, kind of like what they say "What comes around, goes around".

The other day this car was stopped on the island between lanes and had the hood up and this lady was walking around and I could see kids in the car with her so I turned back around and went to try to help them. The car would not start, it ran out of gas so I got out a tow strap and pulled them to the gas station so she could put some gas in her car and get the kids home. She was a very nice lady and wanted to give me some money but I did not accept, just wanted to help out, I have been in that situation 1 or 2 times when I was first starting to drive and people helped me so I just returned the favor to someone else.

I have helped people change flat tires, give them rides to get gas, let them use my phone to call for relatives to help them, etc.... Just trying to help out.

Earlier this year my wife and I unofficially adopted a single mother and her 10 year old daughter and have helped them to get back on their feet. They are now living in a much cleaner and healthier apartment, they are now receiving medical attention that was not available to them before. The mother is working at a job that is giving her 35 hours a week, and their life is so much better than it was 8 months ago.
Some of it was a handout (giving them a fish) but much of it has been "teaching them how to fish"
It is hard to describe the feeling you get when you look into the eyes of someone that is so grateful for your efforts.

I highly recommend helping someone not just during the holidays, but year round.

What? Brokeback Mountain?:canoodle:

I was talking about the title of the thread, Pay It Forward, that is the movie I was talking about.

I have not seen the mountain movie, heard it was "odd" so I never saw it.

I take my son with me to a lot of movies but they have to be "family" movies, cartoons, super-hero movies, etc..., not the perverted kind like the mountain movie, I heard that it was for the "odd" and/or homo people out there.

I saw an articalon the news the other day that somene at a resturant paid for another customers lunch as they were leaving. This went on for about 5 hours, everyone paying forward for someone else.

I get that, but I dont think thats what pay it forward is. I would say its a selfless act to help another in a unique sistuation rather than some monitary one.

Just my thoughts, but a very interesting idea.

You are right Ron. It is not about the money, it is about acts of helping out others for no reason, people that you normally might not even associate with in hopes that they will do the same for others.

I don't remember if it was helping 2 people or 3 people, it was a great movie.

We went to the church this evening along with a bunch of others and we packed 600 boxes of fruit and other foods stuffs in 41 minutes. Man we were flying. Everyone then took 5 boxes to give out to those in need. Tomorrow we go back to pack up snacks for school kids that will last through xmas break and deliver them.

That is great Pat, is that something that you do every year?

There were a few times in my wife and I's younger years where we had to go to the food bank. We now make it a point every year to donate to the local food bank.

This year we are pretty broke (I was laid off last Dec., and now getting a new pw business running), but we still managed to adopt two needy families for Thanksgiving and Christmas to provide them both holiday meals and presents for the kids. I guess these kids don't even have winter coats. Things are tight for us, but it makes us so happy to help out these families that otherwise would not have anything during the holidays. We were once in their situation.

Recently I took the initiative to help out the fellow Roof Cleaning Forums member that had his baby come into this world with severe health issues. I want to see that man and his child enjoy useful and healthy life together.

I want to see that baby live and do well. So I took some downtime out and went and prayed for God to please heal and help this young family. I also posted his website and donation page on our www.a-r-c-a.com American Roof Cleaners Association forum website so our membership can be aware of this mans challenges and help where we can. Do we know him personally? Most do not? Does that matter? Not at all. He is our pressure cleaning brother and we feel the need to try and help.

Oh, another thing I personally did last year to help others that worked out better than I could have planned.

After watching the PAY It Forword Movie (I like this movie and saw it for the 5th time)

I started a Blog on a highly rated website last year where the WRITTEN and personally signed goal and purpose was specifically, conciously find a way to PERSONALLY help a minimum of 100 other people that I never met to help get motivated to help others in need. I peronally helped three others locally and then shared my experiences on the forum and asked OTHERS to PLEDGE to commit to also find someone in their families or community to help as well. These people all satrted to agree and began the mission to help a minimum of three others that personally couldn't do what they needed help with on theri own, and I also started pitching in too helping around my community and sharing the results online with this growing group.

It was started on November 30th , 2008 and by December 31st 2oo8 I had rounded up 103 other human beings that became members and pledged to help at least three others that the knew needed either monetary, food, clothing, rideshare, or just a friendly phone call daily to an random elderly person in a seniors home to cheer them up. It worked like gang busters. My personal goal was met and exceeded by 3 people and they all helped someone else out by a concious effort to give back to the human race rather than just consume and take from it?

The group is still alive and well and still growing.

I believe that there are all kinds in this world , from the extreme, self centered SOB, to the introvert, to the priest to the porn star.

Its all about choice.

I decided long ago to try to help rather than hurt, heal instead of harm.

Not that I am a whimp or a girlie man. I am 6'1 and 249lbs. and use to go to regular Kempo meets. I am also a Father with 5 kids and three grandbabies.

After having some serious health problems and being hospitalized for many months I changed my tune and now try NOT to run the hardcore lifestyle anymore.

Today in my life, I just like to see people win instead of lose and anything I can personally do to drive that ideal home to be of benefit to others I will do my best to do, especially at the time of year when those that most need help con't get it.

What about you? What have you done lately to help others?

Paying it forward, or giving should be unconditional. Give not looking to receive back. Otherwise it is a loaning it forward. That is a selfish motivation. So give and give generously. But there are some basic biblical principles for giving. Give not expecting anything in return. Be thankful for what you have. There is always someone less fortunate than you. Be conscious of who your real source is. The Bible also says you will be blessed in return. When it happens be a gracious receiver, and then give some more. Some of the most wealthy people in the world are generous givers. You dont have to be rich to give. Im also saying be wise in where you give, dont be foolish. Be a good steward of your business and finances and you will be blessed.

One last thought. Giving should be done all year long, not just at Christmas.

Michael, I must respectfully disagree> Luke 6:38 says "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."

This does in fast tell us to give and to expect. At the same time, we are not to give just to expect something in return, we are to give out of our hearts. In the above passage, the Bible does tell us that MEN will give it back to us. This could be in many forms.
