Lets Talk PWNA today

You forgot me Beth, I got 32 associate banners at the top when I was admin, mike and I started the pwna bbs. The first official pwna forum was right here on pwi. I pulled out when we reached 450, mike only took care of it for awhile after I left. You did do a great job, after you r
left is when trouble started.

That's all in the past, pwna has a couple great bbs tgs @ pwi to inform members. Paul is likley right no need for there own at this stage.

Let me go farther back in history. I was on the same web committee you were from the inception and I worked closely with Mike on developing the forum and the rules there. You helped too, but it was Mike's baby. Mike selected me as his replacement due the the success of TGS which was right on top with PWNA at that time, and the number of hours I put in, that was when Mike Hughes managed PWI all the way to the hopper.....you became less active after that.

Beth, did you find it yet Beth?

I was the starting Admin, I truly dont care about the badge. Its not that big of deal, when you recieved it from Mike I had long steped away. Perhaps thats why you think I was not involved. I left around member 435, after that we shot to nearly 500. Like i said when you where at the helm all was good, I think what slipped by the folks who took it from you was allowing people that where not real, handles and such. Zippo was still around and causing problems. (Barry AKA zippo)

It was a long time ago, but I remember being the starting Admin for the PWNA bbs.

Russ, have you joined yet?

It was a long time ago, no doubt about that. But I believe there is definitely some confusion about who was the Admin. Which I believe is a matter of semantics. Ron, if you are referring to being the Admin on the PWNA forum that was started on PWI then that would be correct, because that forum was created prior to the start up of the PWNA BBS. But as for the PWNA BBS I was the Admin and with support of yourself, Beth, John T, Mike Hughes and other Moderators the BBS became the 1 ranked BBS in the industry in a little over a year. I held the position, and lead the committee, for two years, appointed by Chris Detter during his year a president then by Doc Riesman for the first year of his two year term as president. I then handed it over to Beth Borrego. After that, my activity on the board came to a complete halt as I was totally burnt out. I was contributing no less than 20 hours a week to it. Of course that took a toll on my business and personal life. I still don't like to post that much because I start posting more that I should then find it hard to allot the necessary time for other projects that need to get completed.

I strongly believe the success of the BBS was because of the Rules. The BBS was complemented on numerous times for being the most professional in the industry during that time period. It created an open form to communicate with other members of the association in addition to being a sounding board for nonmembers to learn more about the association. It was due to the openness and willingness to respond to the industry that the BBS had such an impact on the growth of the association.

Anyway, it was a longtime ago. It was a successful venture and I am thankful to everyone that contributed to its success. I do wish it was still around but completely understand why it is not.

So you forgot we co-administrated the BBS???

I guess you forgot I would not be a part unless you had positive ID on the members?

Lets see I recall everyone asking me whats the one thing I would have done different? My answer was positive ID on Members...

Its all in the past, the future is all that matters.

How about 500 members this time next year!!!!!!!!!

I think we should have a private BBS, members ONLY

Well, I really don't think it matters that much anymore. I think everyone that contributed deserves recognition for the success it had during that time period regardless of who did what or what their titles were. Enough said about the BBS.

Maybe one day it will be reinstated.

A 500 member association would be awesome. :)

I would think started sooner than later would be good. Every org almost I belong too has a private area. Pwna should also ( members only and additional fees) because it is a bit of trouble. Are you sure your up for the headache ????

I know I will pass this time around mike!!! :)

Thanks Mike for the memories. I enjoyed working with the PWNA bb back then but yes it was bigtime time Consuming. There has to be a better way to make these bb's work in an org...I know the PWNA at one time was paying Jack Phitzer's son to look after the PWNA bb but that didn't work. Its a tough nut to figure out how to utilize an org. bb without all the headaches.

What I recall back then was that Mike Hindeliter and Ron worked on the PWNA bb when it first came to fruition so they were like co Admins. From there Mike H. became the sole admin Then sometime after that Beth Borrego became the lone PWNA admin.
They all did great jobs and the membership escalated to around 475+ members but eventually the bb failed because it was to much work to keep it going without all the crap that infiltrates the bb.

Either way it was mostly fond memories for me and I enjoyed helping out there back then.

I wouldn't mind possibly becoming active again with the PWNA in another year or two because I enjoy doing organization business of course time permitting.

I have the same memory of it Mike does. Not saying Ron was not involved because he was, but Mike was the leader, and it was his baby. I became involved very shortly after it began after Mike and Ron had gotten it going and the committee was then formed. I was on the committee that worked on the rules and advertising. I agree with Mike entirely about the success of the forum.

I handed the BBS over when I left the BOD, the PWNA office took it over, then they handed it off to another member (not naming any names) and it went straight into the toilet, because the rules were not followed and favorites were played, and personal feelings got in the way. That is the sad truth. I remember Mike H and I speaking, we were both very saddened about it, it was hard not to be since everyone who helped to build it put in soooooo many hours on it.

I think a BBS has a definite place and function and would benefit the PWNA. I would volunteer to Admin it again for a limited time to get it going again if they wanted to do it, but I would also want Mike H on the committee, and Ron M., so we could all re-write the rules we all worked so hard to create the first time.

If you want to do it, I'm willing to help. We know how to do this. I am also willing to provide PWNA with a forum on TGS for their own use if they like, just say the word. :woot:

It may have been top secret I was the Co-admin with Mike, funny he cant remember. Beth I dont think you knew I had the control panel. Things just ran like that back then, John recalled it as some other did. Dont fault you for not remembering, forgot it was a 007 admin spot.

I left after around 9 months, the rest was history.

You can say it here, the people in charge tanked it. That was then and this is now.

Beth, i support you running the BBS. I hope the BOD considers it, I how ever like most PWNA spotlights will remain not involved with Chores.

Ron don't be a wuss. If they decide to so it, with as much time as you spend on the phone as it is, why not spend some committee time and we can recreate the rules in no time if we all work on it again. I'm sure it would come back to us pretty quickly. I know you won't admin, you're too all over the place, you're more of an organizer vocally (phone). You're phone is your sword.

The only problem I had in those days was with one person and it wasn't personal. In the end everything worked out.

If the PWNA was to go back to there bulletin board days I would love to help. I know when we had it back then we were floating to close to 500 members and Paul Horsley's goal back then to hit 600 members in a year was definitely doable. Then we let the PWNA bb shut down and there were reasons for doing this. Some agreed and others did not but Nobody really wanted to spend all the hours needed to keep this bb fresh and on the cutting edge.

I say it can still be done and if they ever re-think that then count me in to help.
