I have heard good and Bad about Ready seal, I wonder when you hear bad things about a popular product if its just that. Its so popular they cant make everyone happy.

Well here we go, lets hear the good and the bad about this product.

GO!!!!!!!!!!

Tried just about everything under the sun, when it comes to stain. Settled on RS and haven't looked back. Great product, easy to apply, and easy to maintain. Many tout the wonders of new products, but I love the fact that I can count on this to perform as advertised. We use this product almost exclusively.

Another product offered by Sunbrite Supply :thumbup2:

I don't do a lot of wood but most of the wood I have done I used RS on. I like the product. It is almost completely idiot proof.

Is Ready Seal Film Forming , or does it sink/absorb into the wood rather then staying on top? How long do you tell customers that it will last before you will have to come back and do it again?

I like your banner...

I like Ready Seal, Ron. I use quit a bit of it.

I wish there was a distributor closer than 20 miles away, but it is worth the drive because it is a good product.

I love love love Ready Seal. Word of caution though, more than any other stain I've seen Ready Seal will let the character of the wood shine through. Most clients like it, but occasionally I'll get some complaints about how the knots and different wood color changes the final appearance. This is worst right away and generally evens out a little after a week or so.

Cons: Its a two coat product.
Atomizes pretty easy so I have problem with "cloud drift" on windy days despite plastic and canvas.

Pros: can get rained on after an hour.
Even tho its oil based, it cleans up real easy with soap and water (WAY easier than DEFY water based stain)
Its pretty cheap
Maintenance is super easy (clean, dry, reapply)

Although we don't do a whole lot of decks anymore I did a test and it lasted about 6-9 months in a wet climate before it started to mold. Seems easy to use and smells better than most. Most of the time we used Penofin because of availability and ease of use, it seemed to last a bit longer than ready seal.

Honestly if I had a way to get it easier I would have probably used it more. I ran a 8 month test, if you do a search for ready seal vs penofin on google you can see my post, although I am not going to hotlink on Ron's board.

Because of all the acrylic in some stains it has made stripping troublesome and we have since slowed our deck restoration side of the company.

Pro's

Easy to apply
Great people and company to deal with
Reasonably priced
easy maintenance
nice colors
It really is stupid proof :)
Lazy mans stain

Con's
Durability
Consistancy in finished product (new vs old decks)
Coverage per Sq Ft Low (75)

In a nutshell I used it for a few years but needed a higher end finish for our business model. For the average contractor it's a great product. For me personally it's the Chevy or GMC when we needed the Cadillac.
