Hot & Mighty Show

Its a chnace to win a 17,000 dollar Skid.

Keep in mind its a mans private business, please be proffessional about this thread. The UAMCC does things a bit different and we shouldnt be so judgemental about Toms lottery until the details are posted or waiver for entry is someplace you can read about the contest.

I like the Ball Idea, just like the state Lottery does. Little balls with numbers on them, cleaver.

I'm just jealous he beat me to the trailer Skid giveaway.

Truly Nice Job Tom, good luck with the meeting. Closed space certification was on my list for NCE this year. Truly a great program for guys in the Industrial field.

When I was working at the refinery, I wrote safe work permits which ranged from regular duties to hot work, confined spaces, elevated structures, etc....

There are several levels of confined space permits and usually you have to write so many of each type before you can go up to the next higher level, usually a year or longer and 10-20 of each, the permit writing classes were ok'd by OSHA or they would not have existed.

I don't know what level of permit writing class they are offering but when you are dealing with people entering confined spaces there are a lot of factors involved like using 4 and 5 gas meters, calibrating them every day, taking readings every 15 minutes, having the hole watch trained, having a rescue pre-plan and going over it with the rescue workers that are on-site or the local paramedics or fire department, etc.....This was at the refinery so there was always checking of voc's, lel's, o2, etc..... to make sure that it is not only safe to go in but to make sure that there is breathable atmosphere in there for people to survive.

They don't mention what extent the confined space training is but when you look into it, there is several levels and it takes time and many, many permits to go up levels in permit writing along with time in between each level, sometimes a year or longer.

Just a FYI, not trying to bash.

The highest level of Confined Space entry is the Initial Entry, I seriously doubt that anything approved by OSHA would allow you to be certified in that high or just the regular Confined Space entry with just a partial weekend training in a classroom setting. You might be able to get the basic level permit writing class training and learn about confined space entry and what it entails but as for leaving that class and being able to write confined space permits, I doubt it.

We had the Rescue team go over each permit we wrote and were given scenarios to see if we knew what we were doing and went into confined spaces to see what the contractors were doing and to see if it was safe for them to be in there let alone be working.

When you have someone's life in your hands, it takes time, lots of permits and experience to understand what the confined space is all about, again, I doubt you can learn all of that in a partial weekend of training.

I would have to look at the OSHA site to see what they say, at the refinery they did not want to risk someone's life by letting you know a little bit about it and letting you write permits, you had to write many of them and be tested and be ran through scenarios to make sure you understand what they are about and what is going on.

This is my opinion, not the opinion of PWI or NCE.

Thats not Bashing Chris, great Info.

I think he will supply the certifying body now that he is asked. This will certainly be a good program I'm sure. They know what they are doing, these guys have been around the block, i'm sure they will have a handle on it.

Good info Chris,

I text Tom your questions Chris

If you think 860( I personally think it not even in the ball park) is high you better find out how much in equipment its going to cost to do your first entry.....

Identifying permit-required confined spaces and their hazards;
Proper utilization of gas monitoring equipment;
Methods to safely ventilate your confined space;
Duties of supervisors, entrants, and attendants;
Requirements for rescue services & personnel;
Steps necessary to temporarily reclassify a permit-required
confined space to a non-permit space;
take advantage of OSHA's alternate entry procedures;
and,
Ensuring your written Confined Space Entry program and
procedures meet OSHA regulations

I was a full time fireman for 6 years....Alot of small cities and towns have to call on other fire depts to do this kind of rescue. WE DID at one of the depts I worked at......The other dept.I worked for had a confined space team.THe reason not all have teams is because of the cost....

I would recommend doing some research before you decide to go to some class for 860.00
Call osha........find out if they offer classes....or what are the requirements......?
There are teams out there that you can sub the rescue out too.
The gas motoring's sys. are very high....so is the scott air packs ......or any other kind of air breathing sys.
Is there good money in it .....YES.....But you better have a bank to fund it.
If you wanna a free class on confined space talk to your local fire dept and see if they might be having a confined space class...If you like the work then get into it more

I have two friends that are still fireman.....and work for these teams that over see confined space entires .....maybe they would like to come talk to a nce event....

Hey give me $500.00 and kick you in the nut's and it wont hurt as much as $860.00

Your missing the POINT , you are in a lottery for a 17,000 dollar machine.

Its a gamble, but hey you have played the numbers. I know you have, i guess a dollar shot at 100,000 is a little different.

Funny thing I read the post yesterday on umacc and thought, $860 is a good price for a show like that...

then I thought about what the true value of all the rountables that were offered this past year.

My point is Hot and mightly established A true vale of what a round table is really worth...that $860 is what: Texas,Myrlte beach,las vegas,Florida,Alabama,Geogia,Phoneix ...New orleans and all the rest not mentioned......should be worth as well

What if he gets 2 people signed up is there still a giveaway?

Yeah David, we know the rounds are worth more. The Distributors have been greatful and burden the costs of the show.

Tom is trying a New approach, maybe this will work. I wish him luck, if its a success it will be a model to follow.

Many industry pay top dollar for programs like this.
