Need some help with some proposed Environmental Changes

I happened to be on our City's Water Sewer and Wasted Website tonight, and I couldn't help but notice that they are proposing changes to what can be put in our sewers.

We currently do not have stringent regulations.

Anyways, I was reading through everything and found it kind of vague, I'm really not sure exactly what they are proposing and how badly it may or may not effect us.

Would anyone who knows about this stuff be willing to have a look at the site and let me know if it will? and if it will I may also be looking for possible ways to try and lesson the restrictions as they will be having a meeting about it in February.

Thank you!

I did not read the entire doc, however it looks like it is geared toward the private and publicly owned water treatment plants. But it would be great if you and a couple others in the same industry be present at the meeting to ask questions and raise any concerns that you may have. See if they can offer you (BMP's) Best Management practices before discharge to sanitary sewer and even if it is re required to discharge in the sanitary sewer for the type of cleaning you do. It shows a list of potentially effected Industries, and it includes Food and Beverage Ind, Transportation (Equipment), Auto Services (Car Washes are in there) among others.

It also list some types of chemicals, phosphates etc as well as dillution rates and what not. I just can't wrap my head around that stuff, Chemistry was probably my worst subject in school and it is like reading another language.

Anyways, thank you for having a look :)

Be present at the meeting and have all you questions answered, voice your opinion and keep us posted of the outcome.

I will attend, thank you:)
I'm not sure if I will ask too many questions though, if they are not too worried about our industry at the moment, I would hate to be the one to set their sites on us!

I did make a call and speak with someone in this department, she also recommended I attend the meeting and ask my questions there.

It actually looks about the same as most cities. They are giving you an allowable PH of 11 which is pretty good if you are using normal cleaning agents such as caustic. If you are using caustic and dumping in the sewer just check the ph and offset with some citric acid or something.

I'd still take the advice of Nigel and go to the meeting or ask some questions. Be prepared to explain the minute amounts of water you will be contributing to the system in relation to other sources and let them know that you are just making sure you are operating under the law in spite of the small amount you contribute.

Thanks Tony :)

It's kind of funny, I just happened to be checking up on my rankings and searched Pressure Washing Winnipeg, and this thread was in the #1 spot.
I only posted it late last night.

The power of the "ONE".......PWI, the SEO on this puppy is on ludicrous speed.

(still have small cloud in the back of my mind, but try it form a computer that has never logged on to PWI, question the more someone searches something in google does that help the rank too?)

So what was the outcome? Hope you made it.

I did not make the meeting, I had to choose between Kindergarden registration evening and the meeting.

With the info I received here, speaking with Ron, the Water and Waste Department, as well as talking to my local equipment supplier I was confident that at this time we do not have any worries. It appears that the bulk of the responsibility is placed on having the sewer drains set up to properly filter what is coming through. We will just continue to ensure that we are using environmetally friendly cleaners wherever possible.
