2008 Chevy 2500 vs 2005 Ford F250

The Chevy will have more power, I believe the chevy has the 6.0 gas engine in 2008
The Ford is a heavier duty drive train and suspension but has a 5.4 triton and less HP

If it was me I would go with the Ford as they just make a better work truck. Plus you are getting a 4X4 with the Ford.

The Chevy is the newest generation truck, but is a straight work truck. The Ford is an old design. Ford trucks have had a complete makeover since that model, but that particular one is pretty loaded up. I don't know about the Fords, but I can tell you from personal experience, that the new generation Chevy is a VERY different truck than the old generation. Smoother ride and much more power even though the engine size is the same. The sheet metal on the new truck was thin and folded up way easier than the old truck. I guess it comes down to what you are buying the truck for, if you are just going to put it to work, go Chevy. If you are going to ride it around and enjoy the features, go Ford. You are not really looking at "apple to apple" with those two trucks.

My Father in Law just traded in his 2008 Chevy because of so many problems. I hate Chevy and will probably never own one again. I've owned 3 and had nothing but problems with them.

Although, in this case, I would NOT buy that Ford either. I am a Ford guy too. That 5.4 in that 250 is really weak and will get horrible gas mileage because it works so hard to pull that heavy truck around.

Start from scratch would be my advice. I don't like either of those choices.

The purpose of the truck is to be able to pull a heavy trailer, to be able to fit a crew of workers, to have low mileage, to have representative look.

I would go a hundred percent with a diesel truck either duramax or powerstroke. Unfortunately heavy duty diesel trucks are holding high value way over my budget. $15000 is the max budget that we can afford at this time.
Again priorities are:

$15000 max budget.
Heavy Duty
Crewcab
Low mileage (under 130k for diesel, under 100k for gas engine)
Reliable engine (I do not want 03-05 6.0 powerstroke)
white color if possible.

If anyone here knows a truck for sale that more or less covers my preferences, please let me know. I am willing to travel to the near states if its worth it.

FORD.

For what it is worth, I have two trucks with the 6.0 and have not had problems with either of them. I beat them, and work them hard, but, they are not modded.
That being said, I also have a 2004 with the 5.4. It has spent the last 6 years idling for hours a night, and making multiple stops a night. It is actually on reduced duty, because of the miles, and more importantly, the hours on the engine. It does tow one of my wash trailers, without a problem. Of course it is a small trailer, two pressure washers, a fury system, a 225 gallon water tank, and a full filtration system. It does that without much effort.
I like my Fords, because they like to work. If it was me, and I was budget limited, I would look at an older Ford crew Cab with the 7.3. Don't cry when a crew tears it up though.
For what it is worth, I just bought a '05 F-550. It had 42000 miles on it, is in perfect shape, and I paid $19500 for it. Deals are out there, and now everything is on sale.

Do a search for a Ford V10 it's an awesome engine with plenty of power.

They drink gas though!

Honestly I only got between 11/12 mpg with my Diesels and I get 9/10 with the gasser. But I save a ton in maintenance 7 quarts of oil and a filter done. Instant heat in the winter and no more diesel smell.

I also had problems with every Diesel I owned and swore to go back to a gasser, when diesel went to $5.00 a gallon that was it for me. Of course it's back down now but I am real happy with my decision. We didnt buy any of these trucks for good fuel milage, we bought them to carry heavy loads a long way comfortably, and that costs money.

yeah but fuel mileage is the best argument I could come up with to keep the post going.

I do like the 7 quart compared to 15 quart + 2 fuel filters and a $15 oil filter arguement :dirol:

False economy. Before I started buying diesels, I ran the numbers, including the maintenance costs, etc. From the way I figured it, as long as you drive more than about 25k miles a year, you are money ahead to buy the diesel. Of course, this was a few years ago, and as stupid as the diesel prices are now, it throws a total wrench in the works.

Keep looking, and go with a Ford. Check out ebay or www.commercialtrucktrader.com . There are some deals out there. I've actually been looking myself, and found several white F250 crew cab diesels in your price range. As stated above, if you wanna save some $$$, go with the v10. Fuel mileage is around 10mpg whether you're cruising the truck, or pulling the trailer.
