The gulfstream is said to protect Florida's West Coast from the Oil Spill. I was just out fishing where Tampa Bay meets the Gulf Of Mexico. The only oil I saw was 2 cycle outboard motor on our boat!
 
I think its all ok as well, we flew up there last week and no sign of anything......just miles and miles of bikinis.....
 
I was on Sanibel Island a few weeks ago. No oil but the manager at the condos said they had a lot of cancellations because of all the bad press. We got a gulf front condo for less than the local Holiday Inn up here with a much nicer view.

Prices are great in Tampa right now because of the depressed local tourist economy, caused by misinformation about the oil spill.

Sanibel is ok.....but come to where we live Boca Grande and Manasota key area.....better bang for your buck, there are lots of key islands around here that are secluded and just like Paradise. And Siesta Key is just up the road.....
 
Take a peek...No Oil Here...Tourism has actually been up in this area due to the folks who normally spend their Dollars going on vacation further north up in the panhandle. They still want to vacation but want to avoid being close to the oil spill areas so they have been coming here.
