Designing my own Banner, Postcards and flyers

Hi Y'all. I am currently using a Mac OS X desktop for anything I need for the business side of my life. The learning curb is slow as, most of us have used Windows.

I am wanting to design a Banner, Flyer and a postcard and want to know what program is there that will work well with the MAC to accomplish this or is there already a software program on the MAC to do this?

Thanks in advance...

Adobe has developed their softwares for both Microsoft and Mac systems for quite long.
I think that combined use of Photoshop, Illustrator and a couple other graphic editors can do pretty much everything in the design area.
They all have free trial downloadable versions. You can use them for your logos and then remove them after you done. Other wise it will cost you lots of money for the full versions and it wont be worth it just for a logo project.

While I know this is an old thread, I still encourage having a Professional design these things. Of course if you're proficient with design software "Have At It". But most of the ones I've seen (Homemade) look like...well...Junk, for lack of a better word.

What is it that you tell your customers???......."You'll get better results using a Professional Service". Think About It.

That is a good idea to design your postcards and flyers. Postcards are a fun way to advertise your business.

For 100 bucks Photoshop elements is pretty cool. We do a lot of stuff with it

I would look for an Adobe CS3 or higher pack on Ebay. It has all kinds of Adobe programs combined, and you can generally get the little bit older versions relatively inexpensively. (That's what I've always done.)

Photoshop and InDesign are the two programs I would use. I've personally always thought Illustrator was a bit hard to learn and it uses a ton of memory.

Guy's point about hiring someone is legit, but you will want to help control the content. Most designers are not going to know much about pressure washing. Also, if you can find someone who can write AND design, that's what you want. There are plenty of freelance designers who will work for a lot less than agencies, and several of us stay-at-home-mom types (myself included) who have had successful professional careers but now do freelance writing/design to supplement income, which again will help with cost.

I would be happy to look over anything you come up with.

I'd have to second Allison. I hired a friend to do our branding and some initial advertising some time ago. It was costly, but we started w/ some very professional designs and it came w/ the current Adobe CS at the time. He also gave us a subscription to Lydia.com (I think that was the name) which was a tutorial for just about any design software. He set us up w/ Adobe so we could modify what he gave us for different needs. I got familiar w/ illustrator and it has been a huge help (she's right, it is complicated and cumbersome). Even just having the ability to change the name on a business card when you hire a new salesman, or update images on flyers, or at names and addresses...
Now, were big enough to keep a pro on retainer. Occasionally, we get calls and the client needs something quick. We can make adjustments in adobe to personalize the materials. We are targeting some big clients and wanted something great for the new year. 2012 will is going to be awesome!
