You will be allowed in to the CETA show on Tuesday..
THis means you will be able to stand in front of manufacturers,
( ..the marketing guys, and engineers.. )
and ask 'em technical questions that may have been "bugging" you..

"Why things break" is a REAL important one..
Tell him HOW things break in the field, and troubleshooting issues too.
The engineer doesn't know about "perpetuating failures,"
.. 'lest they get the feedback.

example..
the pump guy knows more about reliability,
..more than the "machine assembler".. frequently.
Just because you can build a system doesn't make the assembler
a specialist in "bullet-proofing", nor serviceability. Eh?
by the same token..
If the pump guy has built a "perpetuating mistake"
a technical-guy, or an experienced machine-owner, gets to speak-up.

Also..
that part you tried to fix that was "glued" together with lock-tight,
instead of with the more serviceable teflon tape..
You get to complain (courteously,) about how he wasted your time..

And the upgrade part you installed that totally "saved the day"..
..Tell the supplier "thank you".. in person.
We ALL work hard for the referrals. EH?

The ORIGINAL REASON for a manufaturers' show,
was for dealers to be able to take their customers by the hand
to the "technical guy" that feeds them BOTH, and to show your face
to the "bean-counter" that didn't seem to care about reliability..
Special effort is what happens, after important people get together
.. "in person".

Just remember you are not there to engage in argument..
just productive, constructive conversation, to "benefit the industry".
DO take note..
you might meet a few that just don't care, but more often,
you will meet with "old-school" ..helpful.. "technical guys".

Be direct, .. but be nice,
and get ALL you CAN out of your visit to Charleston,

and ANY "manufacturers' show" you can get in to.

Enjoy !
I'll see you there.

Sherry says the Phone is Blowing up with Contractors Jerry!!

Good tips Jerry, I am sure this will be a benefit for both the contractors and manufacturers. It is not often that a manufacture gets to speak directly with the end users.
