Best virtual number service?

Ok so heres what we want to do: we are trying to track leads from paid google adwords separately from free organic traffic. The only problem is they both call the same phone number and when we ask them if they clicked on google adwords or the google organic results they don't know the difference 1/2 the time.

So we are setting up an entirely different website - same look, same content, etc only difference is the phone number will be different and we will upload a robot file to prohibit google, yahoo and bing from indexing the site so we don't get cited for duplicate content. The traffic to this site will all be from google adwords and they will all call a different phone number and we will know when they call it is lead from google adwords and not from organic search. We will then have this virtual number forwarded to our main business line with an announcement saying something like "you have a adwords call" when we answer the phone so we know it is the virtual number the customer has called.

The only problem is the only virtual number service that I have heard is good enough to trust is vumber number and when I went to their website today to sign up I found out that they do not offer area codes in my area. And I don't want to have my customers call a long distance number.

Have any of you used a virtual number service that you could recommend that is trackable in some way?

I used Grasshopper for a good year and half. They offer virtual local and 800 numbers. They have some very innovative things like: Virtual Fax where people go through a list of options and can get documents faxed to them (great for coupons). Extensions that can be sent to any of your existing numbers and you can even set up hours of operation so they can't bother you within certain times.

These are all great ideas, however they work just like a cell phone and go by minutes. They recently lowered minutes and raised prices. They also make sure you use them up by sending you though a ton of options to check messages, which use points.

I left because of the price hike and people would always call me on my local number instead. I am trying to make things very simple for people by reducing to one number. Plus people like to see a local number.

Google Voice is free, And you can Customize the number as long as its available for instance, mine is 713-364-AQUA, I can send the calls to my voice mail, and or set up a separate voice mail, if im using that number for anything else,

the approval process takes a few weeks, but once your a member, you get 1 free number, with unlimited calling, and if you need additional numbers its just 10.00

Yea I have used google voice in the past but never like it because when the customer calls it says "please hold while we connect you to the google voice number" or something like that and I thought it was tacky but I tried it agan today and it no longer does that so I will be using google voice

thanks again for the help

Yep you can kill it, It just a setting in the options menu I believe, I didn't use my number for the longest time, becasue I hated that part, but then figured out how to just connect the calls smoothly, and its pretty awesome.
Happy Birthday
