Diesel or GAS!!!!???????

One of our units is a Hotsy that is using a 24 Hp Diesel (very noisy). We use off road fuel. From a saddle tank on our White truck.

Our other unit (Red truck) is a Lp system. We also run all of our pumps with electric motors. The Genset operates on Lp as well as our stand-alone boiler. This sytem is very quiet. You can see the muffler on top of the roof.

We have made arrangements to refill our tanks (both fuels) 24/7. We can run 3 days without refueling either unit. (140 gallons Lp, 50 gallons off-road diesel.

Hello Scott,

Now that I've had more time to ponder your comments about paying for equipment based on market area.

Sure I have spent alot of money but consider how long some of this equipment will last! Fluidend of pump replaced after 14 years, boiler replaced after 30 years, genset replaced after 20 years.

I think this equipment would work in any market! In your area you would put more hours on per year than we do but you still need to consider how long some of this equipment will last!

How long do you suppose a 350 engine running on Lp at 1800 rpm will last? 10-15,000 hours? If our new boiler and fluidend only last half as long as the last ones they will only cost us a few hundred dollars per year to have them! Our pump only runs at 485 rpm. The 20 hp electric motor that we put in 7 years ago is still running strong and have not had to do anything to it!

Diesel engines are nice and they will run a long time.
All of are tractors we farm with are diesel and they run forever.
But to this day I have not used one in a pressure washer, maybe I will soon ,you never know.
We do use 20hp Water-cooled Kawasaki engines. We have between 800hr. to 1750 hr. on 4 units and have not had any problems with them. But for the bang for the buck diesel is the only way to go!!!!! 10,000 to 20,000 hours is hard to beet.
Oh we also run a big washer with a 4.3 V6, cheep engine cost us about $900.00 for the long block and we have just over 17,000 hours on it. I just wish the pump would last as long, on third one.

terry,

how have you set this 4.3 v6 up and gpm and psi dose it put out,
i would like a big uint just to wash dirt off of new parking lots.

for any one else espec has a water cooled kohler 25 hp $1,475
plus muffler kit and shipping. 3 year warranty.

We used after market motor plates for summit that fit 350 small block chevy. Made a support to hold the radiator. Had a shaft made that bolts on to the fly wheel $230.00 that a three groove pulley fits on to. The pump is a ceramic plunger pump made by CAT that has 36 gpm 1300 psi ,the hose is 1 inch , the gun is home hand ,wand is ½” ss 4 ‘ long nozzle is a 60.
I’m 230 lbs. And I work to stay on my feet. I run it for about ½ hour and take a brake.
We use it to clean gravel pit Equipment and scales at the pits we do work at.

Gas vs. Diesel

Gas Vs. Diesel
Here at Landa of Tidewater we have an extensive rental fleet that has a good mix of gas and diesel engines. After talking with my service manager there is no doubt that diesel engines take a lot less to maintain. The Landa units we own run off of either a 15HP or 23HP Lombardini which are water cooled and also come with vibration isolators on the pump and engine platform for fatigue resistance. The only outfits that regularly run the diesel units are related to the government or ship repair. I think the reason diesel engines are used in these industries is because of safety and the fact that they can not afford down time. Over time the diesel will end up saving you money but it is still tuff getting over the initial cost. I can't get into actual running hours without more research. Hope this helps.

You can go to www.landa.com to check out all the equipment and spec sheets. Landa also has a specials department that will make machines to fit in specific applications.

I think this is where I got the idea to build my first diesel Pressure Washer, The Yanmar uses around half a gallon per hour of fuel pushing 10.4gpm@3625psi, I have built a lambardini pushing 8@3500 and it used around 1 gallon per hour.
next build will be a 48hp Isuzu diesel
