I'm have a delima on which way I want to go on this topic. I would love to get rid of the trailers and go to all Flatbed trucks. BUT if one of them should break down those machines are down too. If one gets wrecked the machines are down. What do you guys with flatbed trucks do?? I have commercial accounts that have to be serviced every day 6 days a week. I can't have machines sitting on broken down trucks. Just curious whats every one's opinion?

If you are going to go with flatbeds you have to make sure the truck you choose is dependable, that would mean new or late model used in good to great condition, commercial vehicle, and that you maintain it to the fullest dont slide on tires, oil changes, filter changes.also keep a back up trailer just in case. that being said[knock on wood] I have never had a flatbed or boxtruck go down and cost us loss of production but I have had pickups go down and leave trailers stranded.

Pros and cons both ways. I prefer a trailer and I pull it with a Chevy Express van. It looks good and is lettered and a great source of advertising. I got 2 jobs today from people getting my number from my van while I was driving

With a van/truck you can drop the trailer and use it as your personal vehicle. which saves you on gas, and insurance. If you drive the flatbed you must also have a another vehicle to run estimates and for personal use. If you have problems with a vehicle you can always borrow or rent another vehicle to tow your trailer and still be able to work.

I understand why people want a flatbed, but I think it is more cost effective to have a trailer, at least for me.

I have had truck go down but it is rare and usually I can have it fixed in a day or two at most. When that is the case I can pull the stuff off and throw it on a trailer as a temp setup. I would never go back to trailers the trucks are soooooo much easier for what I do with commercial work.

I want to make the move to a flatbed but I need to get another hot water skid for the trailer. just in case it breaks down. It just less of a PITA for me. I get tired of towing my trailer to do lil jobs here and there + its alot of wear and tear on my personal truck.

I use my flatbed for to do all estimates...for me it is a huge selling point.
