Anyone know what the SIC Code is for commercial pressure washing?

SIC Code is 17990506 Steam cleaning
NAICS Code is 561790 Pressure washing
OSHA sic code 1799

I would do both, but that is me. There is no telling how many pressure washing opportunties are listed by the contracting agents, or purchasing people, under the wrong SIC code.
I used to have a list, and there are many. I don't know where it is now, though. I do remember that I had something like 15 different SIC codes when I registered, just for various aspects ofpressure washing.

You are 100% correct, purchasing agents use the wrong codes all the time. And alot of municipalities only let you register under 1-4 sometimes five code values. And forget about forming more then one company to try to circumvent this position, you risk become BLACK LISTED for violations of their rules.

I joined a purchasing agent group a long time ago and it has been indispensable since. Learning the ins and outs of the purchasing agent has kept me fed for a long time.

Purchasing agent commandments

  1. Thou shalt always make decisions in the best interest of thy employer. Good purchasing agents avoid any real, and even perceived, conflicts of interest.
  2. Thou shalt always involve thy internal customers throughout the purchasing process. Good purchasing agents never act alone.
  3. :clapping:Thou shalt never make price the only criterion in a purchasing decision. Good purchasing agents take quality, delivery, and other criteria into consideration also. :clapping:
  4. Thou shalt measure thy performance and communicate thy performance to management. Good purchasing agents know and show their value.
  5. Thou shalt treat suppliers fairly. Good purchasing agents don’t attempt to take advantage of suppliers’ mistakes nor trick them to accept unfavorable terms. :eek:ink::eek:ink::eek:ink::eek:ink:
  6. :jester::jester:Thou shalt embrace change and new technologies rather than resist them. :jester::jester:
  7. Thou shalt negotiate with the understanding that there may some day need to be a close relationship with the supplier across the table.
  8. Thou shalt realize that it is a global economy and never make assumptions that thou knowest every supplier available.
  9. Thou shalt acknowledge that thy manager’s job is to develop and implement a strategy for the department and, therefore, thou shalt challenge thyself to solve problems independently rather than involve thy manager in tactical crises that can reasonably be resolved at the purchasing agent level.
  10. Thou shalt commit to continuous improvement of thy skills, never letting a year go by without learning new practices used by other purchasing agents.
  11. Thou shalt always exceed expectations, consistently delivering more than anticipated. Good purchasing agents also fulfill obligations sooner than expected.

Joe so you agree there isn't one?

IIRC, SIC # are max 4 digits

SIC Code is 17990506 Steam cleaning
NAICS Code is 561790 Pressure washing
OSHA sic code 1799

Joe so you agree there isn't one?

Hard to say, since SO MANY code types are used, I primarily see NI GP codes. Another code source I see alot is NAICS. Local and state govt's use one type of code, fed uses a diffent' type and private industry uses different types. Insurance uses different types as well.

Industry specific codes would be helpful fo many especialy the govt agency attempting to reach vendors, if the codes were more specific they could open the door to more company's and the bidding could become much tighter. I saw a janitorial company get a 500k project a few years ago, and they didn't even own a pressure washer, so go figure. I register under janitorial all the time now.

The codes are so often vague. And Ron you are correct this industry NEEDS specific code sets.

This being said, I always recommend to people to save the few hundred dollars you may be persuaded to spend on an industry org like PWNA or UAMCC or what ever and become more involved in purchasing trade groups. In the last 8 or so years I have been in this industry I just can't remember ever being asked if I was a member of any of those orgs. Previous to me being in this industry I was a contract administer and I never heard of the PWNA. I would think that if any of the orgs were doing there job then there would already be the INDUSTRY specific codes AND SUB CODES in place already.

If any orgs are to be joined I would say BOMA or ICSC ( neither of which I am a member) these are at the very least useful for obtain work and networking opportunities.

In this case the SIC Codes is strictly being needed for applying for a Dun's number. However the discussion does explain to me why we have only been receiving bids from the state for jaintorial services we must be classified incorrectly. That doesnt seem to be a issue with the city since it more run on the good ole boy system. But that could become a issue someday as well.
