workers comp

Hey Joe, I was not saying that W/C was a bad thing, but you always seem to take things out of context. I was simply stating that for someone to get on here and brag about having workers comp (probably for a week now) All of a sudden everyone else but him is a hack. We are allowed to be exempt down here but many of us including me have W/C, but we dont come on here and try to throw people under the bus.

If I did not have wc it would not make me a hack it would make me stupid but only because I have employees. One man shows don't need it they need the exemption and some good disability insurance. Many may not know but if you get in an accident while driving to or from work all injuries go through wc. Insurance is my fourth largest operating cost due covering my a$$

You bring up a good point here! When I first started and worked with one other helper, I had an exemption. I joined a "small business alliance" that had a health care coverage that covered me and my family at all times, and covered up to 4 employees while on the job. With that, my helper and I had a long term disability coverage.
The coverage was about 30% cheaper than FL WC and it covered much more. If you really look at WC and what it covers and the limits, no one in their right mind would carry it without being forced!
If you've ever had to collect WC for anytime longer than a few weeks, you'll likely didn't receive the full amount you were promised, when you were promised, and you likely had to pay a lawyer just to get it.
Your recourse options against WC is typically very limited, and the employer typically gets screwed, again!
If you're small enough to be under the requirements for your state, do some google searches for small business health care and small business groups/alliances that get you in a coverage bundle. You'll find a fully private company that will offer you better service, better product, and a better price than most "state sponsored" WC policies!
If you have employees, WC stops them from taking legal action against you (sometimes!). That is missing in the other policy I mentioned, but the policy is still better for your employee than WC. And, in court, with the right lawyer and/or jury, you looking out for your employee will win for you if an ungrateful POS employee sues you anyway!

Certainly I was not saying wc was bad.

I for sure understand what you are getting at with bragging about "having the wc" that does seem short sided, but none the less shows improvement on that persons behalf, wouldn't you agree?

A hack seems to need definition here, some believe that a lack of insurance is a hacky move, as do I believe that. I think it is what separates the men from the boys.

So if I use 3/8 hose am I a hack?

I cleaned a store front the other day without using hot water does that make me a hack.

As far as asking if using a smaller hose or not using hot water or what not, if that makes you a hack, maybe you need to ask yourself that, cause I don't remember anyone accusing anyone else of hacky behavior based on their "hose size" or "how hot they can get it". A compitent contractor will decide what is needed as they clean.

And btw when did 3/8 hose fall out of fashion?

Or would using someone elses pictures on my website and marketing material with out there permission make me a hack? What is a hack?

Doesn't make a person/contractor a hack just a jerk off.

This whole debate of whether having wc is good or bad seems pointless, I just can't see it any other way then it is a need, not a luxury.
