Pinewood Derby

Just wanted to share my proud day. This is my son's first year in Cub Scouts and we went to his first Pinewood Derby today. His group had 4 rounds and about 14 kids racing. My son won all 4 of his races. He got 2nd overall in speed, he missed 1st by .02 of a second, and also got 3rd in most unique design. He picked the design himself based on its aerodynamic shape and he also decorated it himself. He had a blast. I am so proud of him and this will be one I'll always remember.:thumbup:
 
I have built a few of them and my son did more of the painting. He has done very well. There are alot of helpful stuff on the web to make it go fast. Post some pictures, I got one we made that looks like the batmobile

I have built 12 pinewood derby cars with my sons, and a couple with kids that had no fathers, or loser fathers. One came in second. But, the rest got the DQ award. Yep, took them to Dairy Queen after. I think even my 21 year old still has all his cars.
 
Congrats to your son! My 10 year old and I built one last year and he won! (it wasn't an official cub scouts derby, just one our pack had with a borrowed scout derby track) We are bout to start on this years car for an official scout derby in a few weeks.
 
Weigh in day tomorrow night. Spent yesterday finishing up car . Saturday night took 3 scouts to a sleep over at a sports complex. Saw a mid level division 1 basketball game with about 200 scouts then slept over night for $7 per person. Got to swim in a huge pool and shoot hoops on the court but I don't think the school will do it again. One scout split his head open and one puked in the pool. The pool vomit was the deal killer for the kids and the school. The pool had to be closed down and shocked with a dose of chem's . Then wait 12 hours and checked by a puke specialist. It was the schools first time doing an event with the scouts. Then I had a few parents come complain about my kids in the morning. I guess they got up fooling around during the night!!!

If you like to watch very good basketball go to a mid level division one school. It's cheap ,greats seats and great skills. It can be a good family night if they like sports!
