880,000 BTU question

Clean County PW

These 880,000 BTU hot boxes are rated a 12gpm @ 3500 psi. Is it possible to put 16gpm @ 3600 psi and it still would stay relatively hot??

The reason I'm asking is I'm debating on putting together 2- Kohler 28hp liquid cool or fwo 30 hp command Kohler engines cold water PW rated @ aprox 8gpm @3600psi and when need be hook them into that burner. I;m just short of funds right now to buy 2 burners so one would have to suffice for now.

What do you guys think??

Your water will get warm but not hot I would guess around 100 degrees. You will also have some flow restrictions with the 1/2" coil on the unit.

What happens if you go the other way around where you have a larger burner such as the above and your only running 8GPM thru it?? Would it heat up faster??

You might think about a pre-heater before the larger burner, it might help some but then you might experience pressure loss going through 2 burners, maybe even flow loss.

get one 3/4" coil/burnner and it will work

There is a guy in south dakota that makes them however the steel he uses comes from over seas.Steve at Largo in tenn will make you one.The steel he uses is from here. That would be a true 12 gpm hot box but the fuel it would burn wow.I thought about a 3/4 inch but the expense on fuel wasnt worth it for me.

I am really suprised that with all the pressure washing skids out there, nobody has started manufacturing a pre-heater or heat exchanger like the carpet cleaner truckmounts have on their machines.

The engines are the same size or larger than their truckmount machines so they should be adaptable, maybe it would take some work to get them to handle the higher pressures but I think that they are a good idea.

If you pre-heat the water then the heat rise you get from the burner will be greater and more fuel efficient I think.

Mabey we will all have 300* super water

My landa coil is 3/4" and it heats the water up fine, and quickly too

Landa SLT 8 gpm

Chris,
When the carpet cleaning industry was "giving-up" on oil burners, 'cuz the 115vAC combination was expensive,
and they couldn't figure out how to make a cheeper burner..
I was helping to develop the new (Beckett) 12vDC oil-burner..
the heat exchangers they came-up with have ONLY proven to be expensive to keep alive..

Since then, I have sold several 16" 12vDC heaters for combination Pressure washing to 4000psi,
and carpet cleaning down to 300psi.
as far as I know, they are all in service, and reliable in between.

Another benefit to oil-heat.. INSTANT heat !
Isn't it great, that this industry enjoys full-temp in 90 seconds !? :)

By the way.. those 3/4" heater-coils are rated for LESS pressure than the 1/2" vers.

I recommend using a 1/2" coil for reliability ..especially if you plan to run 3500psi or more.
(..we get 12 to 15 years, and a 5000psi rating.)
and if you go for dual wands over 7gpm, put it through a 2nd heater.

IF you have large enough an engine to make bigger volume, it probably has enough charging system to run the 2nd burner.
if you can't afford 2 right now.. run just 1, turn your flow down to 7gpm, enjoy the extra heat,
then get the right tool for the job as you can afford it.. and you WILL afford it working smart..

Now, all that said, there are a few ways to "pre-heat" the water, to a degree,
but they will need some safeties
