Unloader/Pump Problem

My PW's acting up again...

Last few days, i've noticed that the hose has been vibrating and i lose pressure for a few seconds.

The other day, i fired up the machine and had no water at all. I gently tapped on both the uploader and the pump, started it back up and it worked okay.

This afternoon, it happened again. I unhooked the hose from the pump to the uploader to see if the pump was working. I started it up and it looked like i was getting a decent flow.

Tonight this happened while i was downstreaming...

Sorry about the crappy video.
I just got done replacing a few O-rings, but the wand is leaking like a stuck pig at the lance (it's the next order of business in the morning).

Right after i shot the video, i was able to get enough pressure to rinse my soap and go home.

Is it most likely a sticking uploader or a pump problem?

I would say it is an unloader problem cycling on and off or stuck in bypass. I would take it apart and check for some debris. If that doesn't work it may be time to replace it.

Jim, the first thing I'd check is your injector. Take it off and look through the backside of it. There's a small orifice in it. If the orifice gets dirt in it, it'll back up the pressure like too small a nozzle.

good to see you got the gig, Jim.

Mine did that and it was an old o ring got in the bottom of the unloader and wouldnt let it compress that was strange.Like the other guys say take the unloader apart top and bottom probably a bit of trash in it.

Sorry for freakin' out again...

Apparently, it was just the leaky fitting between the wand and the lace. Because $3.04 for a 1/4" Jam nut and teflon tape from Home Depot fixed the problem.

Thanks again to all that posted!

Down to about 1,000 psi...

I just removed the head from my pump for inspection. The packing is shot, and the pump is not rebuildable.

I'm leaning towards a General Pump TS1511 or something else similar...

What do ya got for me Russ?

don't blame the pump's maker, when you wore it out prematurely.

...just another example of how you look at symptoms..
what you "see" first, is usually an "effect", not the cause..
First gather the symptoms,
then evaluate the possible causes,
and check the easiest ones first.
THAT is how to be a "troubleshooter"
..and a really FAST one.

But wait, that's not all.. (as Billy would say,)..
Sometimes the effects are longer-lasting..
and the classic example is..
The leak causing your unloader to fluctuate when the gun is OFF.
it can allow your heater to overheat and blow a hose in a minute.
but that unloader cycling while you're ignoring it, for the 2 weeks prior to the hose blown..
has just abour destroyed the unloader, and taken half of the life of the pump-seals away with it.

DON'T IGNORE THE "SMALL" LEAKS !!!

..and don't blame the pump's maker, when you wore it out prematurely.
