Powdered Bleach Review Roof Cleaning Products

Ok water softer sound good on paper but the it is going to push up roof cleaners cost. One thing water softer are going to cost 2000 - 5000 and larger tanks so they do not waste time money running to get more soft water. Sorry to say this it is going to cost to much to make CH work when you can get dot lic and pull in any pool shop get SH for a lot cheaper.
Maybe we should "soften the algae" instead of the water Chris ? Calcium Hypochlorite is not as powerful as SH is, it needs a little help.

I have read conflicting reports, one says the hypochlorite ION formation is 100 percent at a PH of 10 or above, another report said it keeps increasing until PH 12.The high PH mix hits the algae (organic matter) that has a lower PH, and a PH drop occurs. LOL, maybe it will be better to raise the ph of the algae first by spraying it with the baking soda/water and THEN hit that chit

SH loses strength as it meets organic matter, or loses PH. Perhaps if we make the organic matter (Algae) a high PH first, and then hit it, we can use LESS strong SH or CH, save money, and do less potential plant damage ?

Wow, I was just reading about powdered bleach a few weeks ago and wondered if it was CH, guess it was. Hope you guys find an answer to this it would be nice to carry around powder instead of liquid for some people.

Hello Mark, long time no see! Unfortunately, both my roof cleaning trucks are busy, leaving me little time to experiment. My guys are on commission, and they don't like me messing with our proven roof cleaning system. The bleach powder is very low priority for us, since fresh SH is on every corner here in Tampa area.

I have had my share of mistakes giving roof cleaning advice! I once thought that adding acid to chlorine would clean better, found out it was just the opposite! I once thought Stainless Steel was great for chlorine use, WRONG!
"Drinking Kool Aid" is a term we use for blindly accepting advice w/o question. None of us are God's, last time I looked. Drinking Kool Aid can be embarrassing, look what happened to our Poor Clyde

The Bleach Powder was not one of AC's finer moments, that's for sure. But you have to give it up for AC, he DID own, build, and run the biggest roof cleaning company the world is ever likely to know. Here is a pic of his father and him, back when he looked "normal", instead of dressed like a fishing lure

I guess when you are a fishing champion, you walk around dressed like that ? I would be scared to walk around in those colorful shirts he wears, scared someone would mistake me for a fishing lure, and start trolling me.

Initial reports on the Green Wash seem positive! One RCIA Member has already reported good results with it. People I have talked to that have hired AC as a business consultant have all said it was money well spent. These people include Scott Davis, Ryan from Beacon Roof Cleaning, and Marcus Raif in Texas.

Well, I have some ideas of what might be in it, although the MSDS only requires that you list the hazardous ones, and only at certain concentrations.
We have been using activators and catalysts for years Rando. I keep them to myself though. If the Green Wash works, and from initial reports it looks like it does, it is a great idea to use a bleach activator. Here is why. The less Sodium Hypochlorite you can use to clean with, the better!
People say " Screw the Green Wash, I will just add more Sodium Hypochlorite, to make my mix stronger" This is not good thinking, and here is why.
The more SH you add, the more SODIUM you introduce into your customers yard! IF you can make a weak SH Solution clean like a strong one with an activator like the Green Wash, you use LESS Plant Killing Sodium. Understand ?
We have been doing exactly that for years, read our Tile Roof Cleaning page about the Apple Tri Chem System.
Activators can reduce plant damage during roof cleaning Rando, because they allow you to use a lesser concentration of the SH.

Hey Brother, yep still here doing my thing. Hope all is well Chris!

Yes, all is going pretty well Mark, the economy is not good here in Tampa. We are surviving, that's about it, and just barely.

We use at least 1% or 10% by volume powder bleach on every roof we do. (68% Calcium Hypochlorite) Here is a video of a roof where all of the bleach used was powdered bleach. 200 ounces in a 50 gallon tank of water and Green Wash.

So you're back to cleaning roofs now, AC?
What's the name of your company?

APEX Systems

lol............................................SoftWash Systems provides Equipment, Chemicals, Education and Support to the Soft Washing Pro. Though I no longer own a cleaning company and DO NOT do it for a living I do find myself helping out from time to time. And yes when I say "We" I am speaking about all of the companies I am helping as well as myself. It has been a hoot slinging bleach across the USA again. Cleaned in 6 different states in the last three weeks.

Rofl!

Apex Systems has a nice ring to it!
Don't worry, I won't have a hissy if you use it, lots of people do.

Seriously, though- It's a kick though, isn't it? Making a roof magically look new again....
And I'm sure it's a lot more fun if you don't have to do it all the time, just on someone else's project. You ought to do the state stickers, that's a fun idea.

So could you use a powder grinder to make the powdered CH work better? Is there a trick or do you buy from a vendor that makes it more water soluble?

What about the effect on grass and plants? Will it kill like SH if a lot comes off the roof?

What is a good number and time to call AC? I have some questions for you.

Thanks for your time AC.

Calcium Hypochlorite has many advantages, IF the scale problem can be solved Chris.
It is not just a water solubility problem.
The Patents I read overcome this problem in swimming pools by the addition of what are called Sequestering Agents.
IF AC can overcome the scale problem, he will have a real winner.
He may want to look at Chlorinated TSP, that is basically TSP and Calcium Hypochlorite combined.
It is used in Beer making, to clean the Vats Beer is brewed in.
It is said to have Far less scale formation, and superior cleaning ability vs regular calcium hypo.
It is also very inexpensive!
I am not convinced that Calcium Hypochlorite can not be made to work for roof cleaning.
Because of my busy roof cleaning business, I lack the time to get a project like that to work, but I think it is possible.

Im starting to think that Im the only one who just goes out and keeps on cleaning roofs with what I already know works. I don't see the need for trying to re-invent the wheel.
