I have read the BMP's over and while there are a few things that some (Tony and others) have commented on regarding it that I agree are stupid or should not be on there, I do believe that there should be some standard that we who proudly represent this industry should have in place which separates us from the hacks in our respective fields. The fleet washing industry has been told to comply with many of these very things written within it, yet because of lack of enforcement our competitors continue to wash things right down the storm sewer, all the while undercutting our prices because we abide by the regs of the CWA. We wash for national companies that unfortunately listen to propaganda and now some are cancelling washing at all facilities across the US because they are scared of it. Just happened again yesterday. We take an active role in conversing with our local officials and are concerned with having a relationship with them so if something like what happened in Houston is raised in our region, they will contact us, get our insights, etc. My guess in Houston that this was never done with the contractors in Houston and it was pushed thru. It's not always good to fly under the radar which many of us do because of the hours we keep. Another question I had is why such drastic measures in Houston? Could it possibly be that one of these officials witnessed something that a "pressure washer contractor" was doing, asked him if this or that should be going down the drain, and was met with an attitude instead of an educated answer? Seems more than a little fishy to me. Has any mention ever been made of what started it?

I wondered the same thing on who or what started the Houston BMP mess. I personally think its a money thing and they looked at other BMP's maybe got some input from others, but not contractors and went stricter so they could collect more $$$$. Houston is insane. No chems, no hot water etc etc etc is just stupid insane

As for a standard, I agree, but the right standards. Much can be done with NO or little reclaim. The more regs the more money municipalities are going to make ridiculous BMP's as a source for income. I too would like too cut out hacks, I DON'T want to cut our own throats in the process with unreasonable regs and unneeded equipment. The less regs the better, I can buy a few hundred dollars in filters, compared to 10's of thousands of dollars in reclaim equipment to do jobs. I rather buy the few hundred dollars in filters!!!

I am not for a one BMP fits all approach. There is so many different cleaning applications for one catch all BMP

Good post Blaine

What was the trigger to start it. There's an admin or moderator on another board making this direct quoted claim:

I honestly do not understand the totality of the Houston issues. Although I understand what set this issue in motion (One "contractor was caught red handed dumping completely untreated or filtered waste water and literately shoveling 100 of pounds of sludge and fines into the same storm drains, and the deliberate disregard of all the current CWA regulations)

I'd like confirmation of this. Or is this just another example of someone pulling false info right out of their a** and posting it on the boards as usual.

I'd just like to know, one way or another. Somebody post up some proof.

Yes who was the guy that got fined? I heard a rumor but not a direct answer.

I was thinking about joining, but the $350 membership fee is still WAY out of our budget right now.

Besides, I was honestly waiting to see how the BMP situation pans out.

Haven't really had much to say about it until now.

Bottom line, fallacious representation... No membership!

I think you and Jeff are on to something, which is what I have figured all along. The difficult part is trying to educate the powers that be in Houston that one idiot does not represent an entire industry.

It was way back, a local dist. started demanding the contractors get fined and they needed to use her Vacuums as the cure. Started Back in 1996

$350.00 ..........makes this org feel like they can now buya few drinks,,,,,,,,,,,,,they are all fake,,,,,,,,,,save your $$ they will never do anything more then a newsletter..........booooooooooo..........spend your money on real training, real knowledge, stay away from these fakes, good intentions but pooooooooooooor follow through.....time to end the begging of the orgs, they do nothing, will do nothing, and cant' do anything. Until a concept for an org is in place and a clear direction is chosen for that org, with funding in place and time to collect, they will all fail, history has shown us this.

This industry is in a transition period, quasi guided by orgs or BBS providers, bully's, distributors and followers, choosing sides is hard to do, unless of course you side with one of the aftfore mentioned, then you you are just doomed for the same, good luck with that.

Want to make a change, ignore who speaks today and start your own movement, history tells us that, as a fact. Leaders are born from those who watch the ashes burn, not from those who stoke the fire.

Any involved with the orgs will always have an agenda that need to be ignored period.

Distributors need to be heard but not become influeceable in and any, for if they do they just become problem, the problem, often called lobbyist.

Want to advertise distributors, well OK, but they need to sit it out with opinions for a year or so.'

Our problem in this industry is also contractors that have their own needs in mind, know who you are? I DO.....I DO IDEED. Stop trying to manipulate the system, you are transparent and will be called out in time, want to be humiliated with your lies, keep on talking cause some of us are watching, listening and compiling your words to expose you.

Your need for the law/standards to go your way is and has and will be noted, analyzed and forwarded so that you will never get your way. So please be be real.

Want to see a perfect work in progress see consumer reports.

I like the tact that Allison Hestor was taking, a voice for the industry by the industry,

So.....need to argue with me, ok.

good luck
