How to do better

Matt

I'm doing another search. haha I enjoy reading old post - I often wonder what advice worked out and what advice did not.

Hows everything going today? Did you apply any of the above advice and did it work?

Mike

You gave some great points. Have you change on any of your views?

Has anyone else?

Hi Tim, Yes I used alot of the advice. Marketing was the hardest hurdel I have reached since I had to trymany ways to find out what worked. I am know in my second year of hood cleaning and third with cleaning. I do some retail, but most is wand work for cash.

I am taking a leaner and meaner approach, will profit more with less work and time behind the wand. Which will alow me to grow and a slow pace which is Rons approach.

My Phone is not ringing off the pocket, but it is ringing, and that is in the winter. Look out April!

Whats your marketing plans for this year?

Tim,

Well I will doing a bunch of good marketing which will go from residential to hoods.

I will breaking up my business in to groups of 50% hoods to 50% residential and commericial. (other)

I will be sending out post cards to both and running ads in paper, which will reach about 250,000 people per day, then I will be working on residential and commericial maintenace contracts.

I have two monthly accounts that total up to a whole night of work that goes from hoods to awning and concrete. Working on another, and they are all with in a block of each other.

This will set my two year mark for my plan, which at that time will be five years in business.

Crossing my fingers,

Matt

You seem to be right on target. You ought to post your different advertisement in the Marketing Section - A lot of contractors on this board with a lot of experience.

Look like you have plan.

Do think that eventually, you will specialize in one thing?

i am trying to get into more consistent commercial work, especially for the slower winter months...any advice on how to break into that? cold calling?

That seems to be the most popular method to break into commercial. Direct mail can work as well. Faxes....Emails. Actually, all of the above.

A free demonstration can go a long way as well. Just make sure the descision maker sees it.

Cold call for commercial is effective. The most effective, is going to the business and showing pictures, demostration, etc -- Always take business cards, flyer, etc. Dress sharp and look sharp - we wear are worth on our foreheads.

Did any of this advice pay-off for you?
