Ok, Ive been doing mostly houses and decks for the last 4 years. This is first year I have been being found on the internet and I am swamped. I have done a cedar shake roof and a few shingle roofs but now I have a steep slate roof to do. I thought I was going to get a roof surface cleaner but now know better. I need all advice I can get on a cheap start up system. I am looking in to a 12v sprayer but really do not know all I need. I know I want the Goodyear hose thats bout all I know. I need to order this on Monday so any and all advice on equipment and procedure for doing job is very much appreciated

Call Paul Kassander at www.powerwashstore.com 855.351.9274. He has got a great 12V system that is very reasonably priced. Under $100.00 depending o what all options you get. I have been using it for a couple months now and love it. Especially the price on it.

I second the fatboy kit. Its well worth the price. I got the polybraid hose to get started but I upgraded to the goodyear I got from Russ. It's good stuff.

Welcome Patrick.

Cheap Setup is that exactly, cheap....I would look at setting up right and being done with it. Bob or Paul can help you with either.

The Clear polybraid will last a while but the Goodyear Plyovic or the Kuritec will do a good job and last years longer.

You can get by with the 2gpm or 5gpm Delavan or Flojet but I don't think I would trust the Shurflo after hearing a lot of bad things about them.

I heard Paul K. has a new system out there, it is probably going to be a good system.

I would not have bulkhead fittings on the bleach tank, I never had good luck with fittings and bleach, I use a tank without fittings, just drop in your chemical hose when needed.

There is a lot of great info here.

I agree with Chris 100% on this. Wish I never tried to get fancy plumbing my roof setup. Just draw from the top of your chem tank. A Fatboy is a great startup rig, get an accumulator tank so you can use smaller spray nozzles and not burn out the relay. Also get a stainless hose reel, it will be the most expensive component but the 12.5% will eat up anything lesser.

i have a hose reel but connect my hose straight to the pump. no matter what kind of reel you get the SH will eat it up and you'll constantly be repairing it if you do enough roofs ... i use a delavan 5850, it's a great starter pump, got it from bob at pressure tek

Yep I have a Titan SS reel going on 3 years now and no problems!

I might have to reconsider my hook up if you guys aren't having any problems ... i just went off somebody else's advice, although he does a TON of roofs so that might be the reason he was constantly repairing ... good to know, thanks Pat & Hal

I have the Titan hose reel that Bob at Pressuretek has, I think it has the Stainless Steel manifold and it has been holding up for at least 4 or 5 years now for roof washing.

I have about 220' of the 1/2" Goodyear Plyovic hose on it and the hose is doing good also.

The clear polybraid starting turning yellow and getting brittle after about a year or so, I changed it out with the Plyovic and no problems since.

I read somewhere that Titan was having problems with the filler rods they were using. Reacted with sh and caused leakage. May be they fixed the problem.

Nope still an issue. Its the welding wire they are using I believe. They get pin hole leaks in the welds.

One has to be careful with the roof cleaning advice he takes. Sometimes these forums can be like Stevie Wonder driving Ray Charles around.
One guy does a few roofs a month, and sings the praises of a hose reel, and one guy does several roofs a day might have a different story.
We have had ZERO luck with the big Titan Hose Reels, they break and/or leak at the weld. We have not used Hose Reels on our roof cleaning trucks in over a year. The pumps spray much better w/o them! Roof Cleaning is not pressure washing where you are pulling out hose 5 times a day for a 50 dollar driveway. Many of the roofs we clean are well over 500.00 jobs. Our guys have zero problems pulling hose out twice a day for that kind of money.
No more broken leaky hose reel manifolds, no more leaky hose reel swivels, or restrictive hose reel manifolds.
Remember, when dealing with SHC, the more simple you can make things, the better. Anytime you can eliminate un needed connections, you will be better off.

I threw my roof hose reel away last year.It is gonna leak no matter what type you use it will fail. The question is what if it fails on someones lawn and you are on the roof wondering where your pressure went?

Like Apple said roll it up and unroll it.When it's done right the time difference is minimal. It's cheaper and you have no maintanance on a reel.

I only do a few roofs a month so it's not a big deal for me.

I use a hose reel from home depot. It's made for garden hose. It's the square kind w a lid. Holds my 20 feet of 1/2 inch poly braid hose perfectly and cost about 35 bucks. Very easy to roll up and out. I can screw into the deck fo the trailer or take it out and put in the truck. Very transportable.
