Downstreaming Copper Sulfate

My Father is a farmer and uses copper sulfate in his farming opperations. He needs a pesticide license to use it. Will you be able to use this product around residential applications?

There are a few problems in trying to do so:

1. It takes a lot of effort to get it mixed into water, it does not mix easily.
2. It takes a stronger strength than if you downstream it, you need it applied stronger, probably need to use your roof pump to apply it once it is mixed with water.
3. Some places you need a pest control license to buy it and some places you need a pest control license to apply it if you are not a farmer.

Good Luck.

I have been talking to a guy in FLorida that used that. Not sure how he applies it though. He uses it for the exact same thing you want to. Evidently he signs people up on miantenance contratcs for every 18 months.

Here in Tampa, we treat tile roofs yearly with a 2% solution of sodium hypochlorite. This will continue to keep the roof clean for another year. This ofcourse will also work on a clean shingle roof, but would treat these after 18 months.

When I bought mine it was in rock form so it was hard to get it into a good solution, maybe they sell it in powder?

Even when I ground it up, it took a long time to dissolve completely.

I already thought about that, I don't do that many roofs here and tried selling the maintenance package, not one person in 4 years was interested in the maintenance program.

Now if someone was interested, I would do it easier and faster than the original roof cleaning, no problem.

Just put some copper strips on the roof it will prevent it .
I have cleaned roofs with the copper strips on them, both were clean about two to three feet below the strips. It made the roof look really bad.
Chris the copper sulfate I bought is in powder form and mixes in seconds.

+1. Both copper strips, and zinc strips are a waste of money as they don't wok, unless they're installed every two to three feet horizontally. Which would look very strange.....If either did work, I'd offer it as a add on service.

Unless there is a way to bind the CS with the shingles, I can't see any longer term benefit of CS treatment. 3M accomplishes this with copper oxide, but getting it to work in the field might be a challenge?

I was under the impression that CS required a special applicators permit as well. If not it could be a nice add on service to offer a warranty.
Don't forget about Zinc Sulfate either. Or, like Ken said, the 2 percent SHC Solution sprayed for preventing the return of the algae as is done here in Tampa.

Chris, I am wanting something to "add" to our roof cleaning mix after we spray our existing mix down. We will shoot our regular love roof mix, then while that is drying on the roof (we don't rinse), I want to downstream something "extra" for an upgrade with the PW so it is quick and easy. So the 2% SH would be out. I was thinking Copper Sulfate, but would you recommend zinc sulfate?

The reason we won't add our "upgrade" to the mix is that we premix our love and we mix up 200 gal of mix at one time to use for both houses and roofs. If we added it in our mix, it would kill the rest of our love. I also want it to be an extra process to justify the addon service.

OH, I see what you are trying to do now:)
This will do the trick, it controls plant growth for a good while, and was suggested by the Phytomytology Professor that is working with us at the RCIA.
Get you an airless Foamer, add some of this Atrazine and some foaming soap to your downstream tank, and hit the roofs with your very own "Bio Foam Barrier" and "Spore Block Inhibitor"

Has anybody over there tested this stuff? Especially on those white tile roofs? any discoloration, does it affect the tile, sealcoat, paint, or metals on the roof. Looks promising, but no mention of algea and mold on the literature just sounded like some stuff thatll grow a third testicle if played with long enough :)
