Just curious to see if anyone goes through the side wall of their box trucks?

Just wondering if some of you have thought about different configurations for your box trucks where you bring your hose through the side wall instead of the rear door. Especially on residential jobs. Here are 2 things that may help with that or give you some ideas.

The first one is a baggage storage door for an RV. The second is a roller guide like you have seen on air hoses that come through walls. Just mount the reel sideways and away you go.

Look to other industries to repurpose what they have already created.

I don't think that the door idea will work, I think that it would have to be bigger so you can stick your hand in there to wind up the hose reel but it is a good idea, just might need a larger door opening.

What about mounting the hose reels under the box so they are there and easy to get to. They might get dirty with the dirt kicking up from under the truck.

I am thinking about reels under the bed of the flatbed truck that I want to get.

With the reels under the bed or box, that frees up more room for other things on the bed or in the box.

Just an idea.

If you search the truck/van set up forum there was a guy in brooklyn NY who mounted two Hannay reels under the back of his box with both the supply and pressure hoses. I thought it was a neat set up but we do too much work in cold weather and the chance of thievery is too great for us so it all stays inside.

Hose roller guides are great! Haven't used them through a wall yet, but I think you're on to something. Using electric reels makes a huge difference! They may double (or more) the cost of the reel, and greatly increase maint. costs, but if you work a full 8+ hours a day at multiple jobs that can really save your arm (and knuckles and back depending on where you mount reels)!

I have an electric Hannay reel for the water supply with 3/4" Heavy Duty Utility hose on it and the reel does a great job.

I just recently had issues with it but found out that every wire (battery, solenoid, switch and fuse) was corroded at the terminals so I had to cut each one off and put new terminals.

Once this was done I used the liquid electrical tape spray and covered everything up once connected so hopefully the salt-air here will not corrode everything as fast next time.

With all the new terminals now, the hose reel works better than ever! It really made that much difference and with the 3/4" Heavy Duty Utility hose, it really rolls up fast now.

When I install the Fire Hose hose reel (electric Hannay) onto the new rig (1" hose), I will check every terminal and replace if needed so it will roll up fast also.
