I gotta say bleach has been working great in all respects for me.

As far as uniforms, I have two types. I wear a grey wicking polo shirt with logo on the left chest when I am meeting with new clients and such. If I am working in field and it involves chemicals I wear a white tshirt with logo and info covering the back, so the bleach doesn't affect anything.

Chris, I am with you in all respects.

Russell, welcome to the board!
I know all of the "this is going to blow up in your face" comments seem insensitive and aggressive, but I think you've gotten the nicest treatment from roof cleaners that I've seen (it's still early to tell though!)! You've got to understand though, there have been countless chemicals that look good on paper and even have very attractive, practical benefits that actually translate well from theory! But, there are very few roof cleaners that are singing the praises of these chemicals over bleach...it's just the chemical salesmen...In fact, it seems once a cleaner starts singing the praises, they suddenly stop cleaning and start selling...Start cleaning roofs with your chemicals and take over a few markets. If your chemicals are superior, and service and price are reasonable, you can prove your chemical. But, please don't bash the competition (sh, or companies using it) with fear tactics...just produce legitimate results!

Most of the roof guys are out cleaning roofs, they will be in shortly to give their opinion, no problem. hahahahaha

Hi Guys,

I have just had a quick look through the forum and I find the different mixtures listed interesting. While I understand the impressive results delivered by sodium hypochlorite based solutions, I think it is worth noting there are some significant downsides to this approach. 1. Sodium Hypochlorite does not kill spores, just discolors them, this is why surfaces cleaned with bleach products return to a green / black / brown color within weeks after cleaning, providing the conditions are right for growth (humidity, temperature, source, etc..) 2. Sodium Hypochlorite causes corrosion, tacks, nails, screws, gutters etc.. damaging the property. (Click here for info on this, http://www.sosafeusa.com/products-industries-served/technical-bulletins/chlorine-substitute-corrosion-test) 3. The run off of the chemical burns plants, grass etc..., 4. odor - bleach is not good for the nostrils, don't know about you, but I love going home to smell dinner on the table. A couple of years of working with bleach on a regular basis and you won't! 5. Uniforms. Sodium hypochlorite hates colored clothing!

There are other options out there which, mitigate these draw backs of our beloved bleach. And your customers will love you for looking at them!

Have been reading alot about this over on RCIA, lot's of guy's over there in agreement with you. May have better luck with this theory there.

Well this was the first roof I just "discolored" the algae on almost three years ago. 3 houses down from me and I walk past it walking my dog every day. The algae still looks "discolored" just the same as well as the brick that I "discolored" the algae around the steps. I must go back and apologize to the homeowner for discoloring their algae.6 henson roof Before.jpg7 henson roof after.jpg

Just found this thread. I like how the Russ dude never came back to defend his statement.

Oh well, I should get some sleep so I can go discolor some roofs tomorrow. Ha!
