What do we have here?

This is a Ryan's Steakhouse and the solid stain appears to be blowing off. I'm thinking improper prep before staining. Typical cheap rush construction work is my first guess.

Could be a million things. Is it solid stain or is it paint? Regardless of prep, wood may not have been dried before coating applied and sometimes solids just plain suck...and they peel.

Thanks Charlie, Yes I am fairly mostly somewhat sure that the coating is indeed solid stain. How's that for a definitive statment, lol.
Well I was going with cheap and fast and I suppose green lumber would also fall in that category as well.
How would you handle this Charlie?

Anyone else ever see this on a Ryan's before or work on a Ryan's?

That looks like old, oxidized paint that failed and is peeling.

Well the picture was sent from a DM, I guess I will have to go and get a first hand look.

Looks like an acrylic stain. The flaking or peeling indicates a moisture issue, likely at the roof. I am guessing here, but those look like log faces rather than log construction, and I believe water is getting behind those faces. let us know what you find out, Rob.
