PWNA LOOKING for MOds

Mike

You have said it very well and over the past I have expressed the same ideas-and it does come down to MONEY. Yes if the internet was not at our desks we would be searching for the new idea to make our life and work more tolerant of outside influences.

If I were to look at PWNA in ways of change I would look at certification-education and compliance of the membership to a basic standard at the entry level.

I would just tell the membership that we don't have benefits and don't pretend that we do. You will never have a benefit program other than a free subscription of Cleaner Times.

Thank You

David:)

As far as benefits the PWNA offers, it does come down to what you consider benefits.

Benefits mean just that, did you benefit from it. Another words if you feel You don't benefit at all then to you there is no benefits.

Obviously everyone would love to see iron clad benefits in any group/organization. This is the reason why Unions work so well but a union doesn't necessarly pertain to just a group/organization. Its more then that.

So for the time being the $250 I pay to be a member of the PWNA I look for the small stuff that benefits me to be a member of this group and networking/conventions fall into that catagory.

Hopefully down the road there will be alot more benefits. That is the reason why I support this group because maybe one day other PW's can benefit ten fold and I helped in this process and also gained a few benny's myself.

That last paragraph explains it all as to why I am a member today. Sometimes one has to give a little to reap the rewards later. Just look at the forefathers and founding members. I bet most of them benefited from the PWNA in the long run and thats just starting from the beginning.

Blind leading the blind - I disagree.

I just completed my first year, so I consider myself a newbie on the operation side. I did two log homes, approx. 52 decks, & a variety other jobs. As of being a mod on the operations side of pressure washing - I will be the first to say, that I am not qualified. But there are forums on bbs boards that deal with business, marketing, taxes, etc. I have 3 successful business, business degree, accounting degree (also work as an accountant part-time), experience in business taxes and marketing, etc. I'm not blowing my own horn - just proving a point. Because I am a newbie with one year of pressure washing under my belt - Can I not contribute?

Yes I work the operations side of the business - I'm not just a pencil pusher - I was on every job. I was there to open all 400+ gallons of ready seal.

**An organization grows and become successful by capitalizing on the strenghts of its members. Strenghts can be in the operation side or the business side.

I have read and read and read about the PWNA. I think its a good organization and plan to join in the spring. Its leaves a sour taste in my mouth to see a board member make comments like (newbie) blind leading the blind. As a newbie, I have to ask myself, Is the PWNA for me or not?

Question: If I become a member - How can a newbie contribute?

Tim,
Don't take it personally. Some people might consider a person with less then 5 yrs as a powerwasher still to be a newbie. I've been at it for over 7 yrs and to some of the "Old Timers" I am probably considered a newbie.

I see Mikes, point but as for the other area's that you mention you seem more then qualified.

I think Mike was just talking about Powerwashing/wood care/ Hood cleaning specialty sections. With one year experience it would be a tough sale to tell someone who is asking a question that you have one year experience and this is what you should do even though you probably know the answers anyway.

If you really want to be a moderator just post it in the Pwna bb at www.pwnabbs.org and explain yourself like you did here without any negativity of course.

Give it a shot. They can only say yes or no. Hey I was turned down at PWN and I didn't take any offense to it and I know I am probably as qualified if not more then some of the other moderators there. But as the old saying goes "Thats life"

Good Luck

'Newbie' or 'Oldtimer' who cares?

Tim Smith made some very good points on how he can contribute. We all have different backgrounds and bring something different to the table. If someone feels qualified to answer a post or moderate in an area they feel comfortable, I say the more power to them.

Tim,

I totally agree with you. I was responding to comments made by someone, and I believe you are taking my statement out of context.

Contact Mike Hinderliter, if you are a PWNA member and wish to contribute to the bbs. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if you would like to be a mod on this board in appropriate sections, we can arrange that. We can all benefit from each others strong points, regardless of how many years we have behind the wand.......

Thanks.

Tim Smith,

I do believe Mike was talking specifically about the trade.

When I founded this site I had moderators that had only been in the business a few months. Just to name a few was Andrew, Adam & Jerome. Andrew added a computer back ground and the other two guys just moderated shoot the bull and the photo and distributor section. {They made sure no one was using anything stronger than Poop.)

I see your points and I’m sure you could join as a moderator on this BBS or The PWNA.

As a web committee member I can say that I would accept your help and if you join welcome aboard. I have a task that I need help with tomorrow. (They take master card and visa)

And if you don’t want to join the PWNA now help PWI Mike has extended the invite.

Tim, none of us are perfect and I learn stuff everyday, I have learned so much from these BBS over the years you couldn’t imagine.

If you would like to talk please give me a call 6026942680

Thanks, I will join the PWNA in the spring. I would like to become proactive in the PWNA.

I own a home inspection business - Have you ever heard of ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors) - This is the most prestige home inspection organization in the world and not as old of an organization as you would think. If a home inspector is ASHI certified - that carries a lot of weight in the real estate industry. I've read all the comments on the PWNA (both good & bad) - almost the same concerns, complaints, etc were made at the beginning of ASHI existence.

Just my opinion - PWNA should promote who they are, but the individual should promote the PWNA to their customers. So what if customers do not know who the PWNA is - the contractor should tell that customer that he/she are members of the PWNA and this is who they are and this is why I am different from other contractors that are not a member. Contractors should put the PWNA logo on everything they do and tell every customer about the PWNA.

Suggestion for PWNA - Create a flyer or phamplet that tells the customer the history of the PWNA and what it stands for & most important why the customer should choose a PWNA member. Give a certain amount of these flyers to members as they join to give out to potential customer.

The organization and its members have to promote each other. Thats the hidden rule to any organization or successful business.
The members should have a voice within the organization. TQM (Total Quality Management) - When making a decision, who better to get input from than the contractors that are in the field daily doing the work. Manufactures and wholesale backing are very important - but the members are the biggest asset to any organization.

I have learned so much from this board and truly appreciate it. I feel that I owe something back - Ron, I will assist your board in anyway that you would like - Thanks.

One more thing - I've withness the home inspection industry grow and grow into what it is today. I am so excited about the pressure washing industry - within 10 years, it will be like the home inspection and landscaping industry. What was the landscaping business like 15 yrs ago - now look at it. You guys on these bbs are leading the way. Its just a matter of getting the numbers under one voice.

(That's exactly what I do!)

The above sounds like a great idea.

i think think this is a offer that should not be missed on either bbs,hes always positive foreward thinking and loves kicking a problem around.

just my 2 ...paul.

Tim Smith,
Great post. If its not already there I think this post should be copied and pasted onto the PWNA bb to get the board members to respond to it besides just Mike H. as he has done here.

These are Idea's that need to be heard not just to disappear here in this thread. The PWNA needs to be promoted by all just like the way that Tim made so clear in his post.

I won't paste Tim's posts here on anyother bb unless asked to do so but I do think it should be done.

I brought up this thread on PWNA and PWN bb's not by copying and pasting but by directing readers of those bb's to come here and to check out these Idea's that Tim Smith brought up. Hopefully we get some responses to his Idea's.

If I was on the PWNA's board I would be checking out these idea's and even ask Tim If he would like to talk about it also via phone.

Great Idea's from anyone, members or not should always be considered.

Once again good job Tim Smith.

Tim S and Paul-uk

I appreciate the kind words; PWI belongs to Mike Hughes now. I still help Mike out as the founder of the site. PWI will always be my home. I’m sure Mike will accept your help and find a place you can help.

I’m at the PWNA site trying to assist them on getting the site going. I will accept you’re help there and find a place for you guys is you become Members. If you don’t want to we still need your help. The pwna BBS has a place for non-members as well as members. We are in the process of growing this organization. We are going to have the biggest growth year we have ever had. (Don’t miss it)

Paul_uk , thanks for noticing my help it makes it all worth while.

Tim S ,,I’ll see you when you join in the spring and save a spot on the BBS for ya!

ron musgraves

hi ron....my last post was about tim s..as there has been some good men allowed to slip through the net through inertia.

but as you say it is nice to be noiticed that your trying to make the difference and that you genuinly want move the pw industry foreward and give a lot of your time and money to do it out of the goodness of your own heart, you do so much we all take it for granted..so for the record your #1 :)

cheers paul.

The whole thread was quite interesting - especially some of the ways positions have changed from then til now.

Things that make you go "hmmmm"
