Lets just start running this thing like a business!

Hows that for a start?

I want you guy to know I'm here and if I do something wrong you can BAsh me if you want.

Trust me i can take it....

I keep seeing these ridiculous things about no negativeity about orgs, WHAT!!!

Man if we suck we suck!!! BASH US

How do you make things better? Listen to your members, don't we all listen to our customers?

members = customers which = $$$$ = getting things Done

If you could do something with the UAMCC what would it be?

Make it so my customners ask me...are you a member of the UAMCCC? I want my customers to know about it before I have to tell them. Pipe Dream?????

Negotiate for group member benefits (insurance, pw products, cc processing?, etc, etc)

This is a great one to start with. Larger companies get breaks on Health, life and medical benefits why couldn't we all pool together as a group? This is a great idea.

I'm going to look into this for the UAMCC.

I have a feeling this org is going to explode! It feels like everyone is in the starting gates racing there engines waiting for someone to make a move and when someone does its going to be a huge display of contractors helping contractors to get this thing off the pad.

A couple simple goals to start...

Help contractors protect themselves from misguided govt interference.

Help contractors make more $.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!

I hate to be Johnny Raincloud, but part of the problem with developing a benefit program is that some states require every company to be under their own policy. Arizona being one of them. That means that even if you go through an employee leasing agency as an employer, your company is required by law to be under its' own policy. I bet there are similar laws in other states.

Yes I agree, insurance and national benefits won't work without chapter run or state run divisions

Doesn't have to be insurance, that's just what everyone thinks of as a group benefit but maybe there are other ideas out there

Keep the ideas coming!

Benefits and freebies are ok, there is no reason they can't get member specials on some things.

More important I agree with Chris and Ron though first it needs to run like a business not a good ol boy network. Start by looking out for the contractors so they can stay in business. Develop some regional groups that can meet regular and can discuss problems or things that are impacting their business in their regions that way they can develop a strategy to attack it before it becomes a national issue. Lets get PROACTIVE not reactive in what the org is doing for us the contractor!

Most here dont know me.. but to give you a little background I started a window cleaning association just a little over a year ago.

We just had our first round of renewals and so far we are looking at about a 95% renewal rate. We signed up over 200 members in the first year. We are the most expensive in our industry to join, but we offer the best benefits. The other trade associations in our industry see a 20 - 55% renewal rate each year.. As said above I urge you strongly to run it like a real business. Most orgs are a complete joke. They are made up of volunteers who put in a little effort at first and even less as time goes on.

I should mention we are NOT a non profit so it makes things a bit easier. Run this thing like a business and get guys and gals on board who really really want to be there and you will be in good shape.

Good Luck!

Get rid of the whole by contractors for contractors mentality, from what I've seen with these type orgs is that contractors don't know crap about how to run them!

Like Chris and Ron said, run it like a business.

Get rid of the whole by contractors for contractors mentality

Exactly!

No offense to anyone but I dont care about supporting the industry, or contractors for contractors or whatever. If I am going to join something I want to see a straight up list of tangible benefits. Things that will impact my businesses bottom line today. I dont care about a logo, or conventions or meetings. I just want results for my money spent.

Keep in mind I am talking as a contractor here only. I wear a few different hats, but today I have my contractor hat on.

Big Bingo here John! I totally agree!

Another Big Bingo goes to Paul, looking out for and helping Contractors be more profitable helps everyone concerned including the fine Distributors that have truly supported the Contractor.
