Brand New Small Engine

I have a brand new small engine that was recieved about a month ago, I installed it on my reclaim unit and I am having problems getting it to run without full choke.


18hp briggs, The fuel tank is about 4-5 ft below the machine so I have installed a boat primer bulb to prime the engine just to keep from turning it over constantly trying to re-prime the fuel system. The first day this was installed I let it run for a few minutes and all was good as far as I can remember but now it will only run with the choke on full. I have pulled the carb, cleaned it out good and still the same issue. Any ideas, the engine has less than 30minutes run time on it

Check for air leaks in the fuel line. That is the first thing that comes to my mind.

When you "cleaned it out good", did you clean the jet with a pin or small drill bit, etc.?

Is the "vent" open on the gas cap?

, done this and even removed the filter jsut in case there was a leak there as well.

no, i didn't but there were no crystals in the bottom of the bowl or anything either

Vent is open and the other 2 machines on this trailer run fine off that tank

A small piece of crud may have gotten into the carb and got lodged in the jet.

It has to be a carb problem then. One little piece of dirt can foul it up.
