I recently had an issue where a photo owned by someone appeared on a webmasters account we use to make montages/videos/brochures. The vast majority of these photos are licensed by the company "godaddy" and are photos used to make websites.

Well after using the photos in some stills on a story/video I was contacted and told to remove the photo since it belonged to this person.

The world wide web, is simply that! WORLD WIDE. If I type in the term "power wash" as an advertising company and find some stills like those that are used on my site and they are not stamped, that means you are giving permission to the entire WORLD to use those photos.

If you do not want your photos used STAMP YOUR PHOTO. If you dont you are essentially putting them in a grab bag for the world to use in videos/brochures/their websites/ or even misleading others to believe that YOUR WORK is THEIR WORK.

Companies like Godaddy.com have a virtual library of photos for you to use on your sites and I wonder how many of those belong to someone else?

If your photo shows up later down the road on someones brochure YOU essentially gave it away by posting to a huge database (the net) and not copyrighting it. Calls for copyright infringement cant be met when youve never made a claim to it being YOURS. STAMP YOUR PHOTOS. Avoid a future problem for everyone.

Here is an article on how to stamp your photos.....

Let me see if I understand this right. You stole a picture. You get called out for it. Instead of being ashamed for taking it you lash out and blame them for not copyrighting it. Why not apologize and remove it?

How about you just take your own photos and respect the guy who doesn't want his plastered on your own site.

The fact that a photo shows up online has nothing to do with its legal protections. Google indexes millions of photo for their gallery and people use them but doesn't mean its right to steal.

How about he stamps his photo so that godaddy.com doesnt allow users to copy it. If you put it on the web its free unless you copyright it. You copyright it by tagging it. If you dont then anyone can use any photo you use. Its only stealing if its identififed as belonging to someone. Dont want your stuff used by godaddy.com speak to godaddy about it! Dont want your photos showing up on TV commercials tag them and then those photos can be identified as having been stolen since the copyright was removed. Never tagged? NEVER OWNED end of story.

Their are a million moss/power washing stock photos owned by godaddy/website tonight/intuit/ that show power washers/construction crews and damaged roofs. I can go in right now and pick out dozens and dozens of them and build a website with not one photo ever taken by me.

C'mon dude. You know thats not the photo. Your digging a ditch for yourself. And I never asked you to delete the photo. I simply asked you remove your video on Rons gallery and repost at a later date because the videos were displayed too close for my comfort. My pic was in my video and my pic was in your video also. I didnt want people to pick up on that. Because I take pride in using my own original content. I never called you out publicly. I called you on the phone yesterday morning and asked you nicely, to save us both from embarassment. But now youre being silly.

Well, extend a bit of professional courtesy and pick one of those 'million' photos... if you have been asked 'nicely', do the right thing.

Your justifications related to the 'world wide web', 'giving permission to the entire world', 'YOU essentially gave it away by... not copyrighting it' are weak and absurd - you're not going to get much support here.

Dude just be a professional and dont use anyone else's photos. It will give you more sense of accomplishment when you use your own pictures of your own work. You are not very humble for being a newbie on these bb's like the rcia and here. Alright im done here i have to go tag all of my photos of my work before this guy gets them and claims them as his.

At S*nitx, we go the distance to access your units. Here, one of our technicians is seen working off the lift to access a very tall roof:

That was one of them. It was a picture of a hand pointing to a damaged shingle. Not a before/after. Not a logo. A picture with hand pointing to a hole in a roof. How in Gods name is anyone supposed to know where and who owns that. Its why tagging is important.

Its not tagging whats important. Its using your own pics is whats important. The pic you used has been a major part of one of my websites. A few people on RCIA have asked to use that picture which belongs to a set of pictures on my website http://www.thompsonroofcleaning.com/whats-eating-your-roof.php. Ive always gladly allowed anyone to use my pics. Again, its not like I asked you to not use it. I simply asked you to repost your video at a later date to avoid anyone looking foolish. But its too late for that.

Show the pic, lets see what the fuss is about! dont act as if you did me a favor by not "making anyone look foolish" when you went like a woman 20 minutes after calling me and made a thread on the RCIA. Like a ..... 10 minutes after you called me I did what I said I would , you didnt. You called, let me know that their was a pic that belonged to you and asked me to remove it, I did what I said and removed it 5 minutes after our conversation. Now you wont post the pic. You acted as if you were greatly offended, as if someone stole your before/after or claimed your work. It was a picture of a shingle with a hole in it and your hand pointing to it. I showed the picture and captioned " damage on roof" but your a drama queen. I looked over your entire site looking for this pic, and its not a spot to be found. A hole in a shingle with your hand pointing to it? are you freaking kidding me? You do know this picture is to be found on every search term labeled "shingle damage?"
I started this thread so that the next guy -carefully and with caution doesnt repeat my mistake cause you never know when a someone will create a thread and make a drama!

Dude you have mental issues and you need help. Maybe get off the roids. Its his pic you used it now just say thanks andfreakin move on he obviously has a lot of backing on the subject and so far i see no backing in your defense. Eat some ice cream and chill out. This is not how you make friends and network with people in this industry.
