Please tell me this is not a Certified Practice of Roof Cleaners in the RCIA HELP!!!!

That does look very unsafe for roof cleaning.

That is a steep roof and a long way down to fall.

I am surprised to not see fall protection up on that roof.
 
ewww no way thats stupid! What kind of fall protection are the non dummies using around here? i just got a miller 5 pt harness with the bungee whip...havent bought line yet nor a vent pipe or pitch style anchor. some roofs dont have vent pipes high enough so is it unprofessional to nail a roof pitch style anchor into a customers roof???

I would stand on the very low pitched part over the front deck and shoot up towards the peak. Should never walk on the top ridge like that. That is a ridge vent he is walking on and those should not be walked on. If you HAVE to walk that you should straddle the vent so one foot is on either side of the vent, but my choice would be to spray from the area just above the porch area and spray up. That roof could be sprayed easily form one or two spots. He looks very comfortable up there though. I think his plan was to spray the whole roof without having to come down.

That is exactly how we do it. Walk what you feel comfortable doing. We don't need industry or gov't regulations telling us what is safe anymore than we need them forcing bmp's on us. If it is steep or high, we wear a harness and tie off. I can assure you that we do not drop a piece or rebar down a vent pipe with a rope tied to it. That is bordering on the insane.

In my world, tht is how I would have chosen to do it. I would rather go up and come down a couple times from the low spots that ae safe than walk that higher ridge. The cleaning process is no different if it is sprayed from the top down or from the bottom to the top and then flows down. I would not have walked down that pitch, especially when its wet with detergent....thats insane.

William, since you do a lot of gutters yearly, what are some of your selling points on cleaning them?

Here, less than 1/2 of houses have rain gutters and I would like to clean more of them as it is not a bad job but so many don't have gutters and most of the reasons I have heard is that they are a maintenance issue and have to clean them out several times a year.

For those that have rain gutters, I would like to market to them but not sure what to say as I don't get a lot of calls for rain gutter cleaning.

Well i can tell you that the company in the video is not a org. leader. Unfortunately people do walk roofs without safety harness and i am guilty of it myself. Now we just shoot from the gutter line with just about 2-3 moves or use 2 ladders with no moves. It only adds an extra 1/2 hr maybe but its definetly safer.

Probably goes something like this, "hey your gutters are full, they need to be cleaned out". Love Williams Simpleness on things.
